Something like this will work:
ftp -n ftpsite.com < filename

And then in filename:
user anonymous [EMAIL PROTECTED]
cd /dirofchoice
prompt
mget *.ini
quit

Subject: Internet Filtering
Date: Fri, 29 Dec 2000 21:12:21 GMT

I have @home (cable) service and am setting up network access for my
family. Although I am a unix newbie, I was able to plug 2 NICs into
an old PC, loaded RH7, and successfully enabled simple masquerading.

My wife now wants me to block all porn, violence, and hate sites. I
know that there are Internet filter programs for Windows that do this
(NetNanny, CyberSitter, etc) but have not found a program for Linux.
I believe I'd prefer a program that evaluates content "on the fly",
rather than via predefined lists of inappropriate sites.

Is this practical? If so, would someone please point me to a suitable
product?

I've been trying to get Windows 98 to run in VMware from RedHat 7. I can
install windows 98 inside VMware but can't get a resolution over 640x480
and 16 colors. Is this a limitation of VMware or my video card? Thanks.

Hi. I'm trying to switch to Linux but have some programs that will only
run in windows. I am using RedHat 7 and VMware 2.0 with windows 98SE. I
can set up VMware and install 98SE but I cannot get my Voodoo3 3000 to run
inside 98 - the resolution stays a 640x480 & 16 colours. Is there a
setting I need to change or is it a limitation of VMware or my Voodoo3?
Thanks.

I installed Mandrake 7.0. When I run scripts, like samba, I get error:

[ := :unary operator blah blah

>From what I see on usenet, the problem comes from an if statement
referencing a nonexistant environment variable without quotes. I'm not
at that computer to make sure that is actually the case, but assuming
it is, how do I fix all the errors? I get tons of errors when I
shutdown the system, so it's prevalent in several scripts. I don't care
to go through them all. Was/is there a fix for this?

Thanks.

It's probably because you haven't built the kernel NFS support. Not
sure if it requires experimental setting enabled.

Try using the sndconfig utility as root.
You haven't written what Live card you have, but atleast someof
the cards have emu10k chipsets, which appears to be supported on
my RH 6.2 system.

I would like to implement a very accurate timer on a Linux machine. The
exact time between a series of trigger pulses on the serial port is desired
(the time between pulses would typically be larger than 10 ms -
milliseconds). Can you provide me with feedback on:

1) What timing accuracy can be achieved with a standard PC?

2) How can I minimize the delay from activity on the serial port to
processing of the serial data under Redhat Linux (e.g. a realtime kernel
patch)? What would typical delay times be?

3) How would one log the time between pulses (activity on the serial port)
accurately under Redhat Linux? I am only interested in the time between
pulses, not the exact time the pulses occur (unless the delay in processing
is too long of course).

Best regards,
Theo van der Merwe ([EMAIL PROTECTED])

They want asyncmap 0xa0000 This usually announces a broken isp. Use
asyncmap a0000
in /etc/ppp/options.
Also make sure that you do not have xon/xoff set up. the 11 13 are the

Try that asyncmap and see if it helps

I'm getting (all of a sudden) the following error message when I run
mysqld (as root):

        001229 14:07:15 mysqld: Can't find file: 'host.ISM' (errno: 2)

Where should this file be and if I can't find it, can I build a new one?
Thanks.

If you do 'ls -ln' you can get the numeric UID of the owner, and then scan
through /etc/passwd to find the user name associated with that UID.

Floyd,

I am not in the US. I live down under and as I have 14 WORKING 486s in
the house, as I said I will go BANANAS if I have another machine
particularly one which requires all new daughter boards, Pentiums are
NOT cheap here and the expense can hardly be justified for a SERVER.

Hello cpw,

The machine has a CD drive on the IDE bus. I am trying to get a grip
on LINUX before jumping in at the deep end and installing it into my
two servers on the LAN which currently are responsible for 6 SCSI
drives which are selected one or two at a time as required because
they are in caddies. I run two workstations on the LAN which is great
for mixed language programming and other jobs where you need to access
two screens at the same instant. For backups they are all connected
but only once a week or so. It took a lot of effort to set up the LAN
and I do not want to sabotage it.
