Hi,
I'm rather confused.
I recently purchased Redhat 7 installed it and have got 2 servers and a work
station running pretty well!
OK it does what i want.
I'm pretty new to linux and now i need to set up a system where my gateway
to the internet recieves all email and then will disribute that email to my
workstation. eventually that one workstation will be 50 or so.
Now i have borrowed a book called redhat linux 6 in small business. Written
by sery and harper.
It says i can use IMAP, SENDMAIL and FETCH MAIL to do what i want and it
details for me what files i need to configure!
so i start.
It mentions configuring a SENDMAIL.CW file in /etc/
it's not there! now has it changed name in version 7 or redhat? i'm
confused.
Can anyone help me , is there a website which i have not found that explains
what i have to set up to get this working???
Thanks very much for your help on this matter.
Kindest Regards
Kevin Davis

Hi all,
I am very new to java being more involved in vb,Mts and sql 7 (microsoft)
side. I would like to switch to programming on linux using java but i am
unsure if i have the same type of architecture on linux/java.Here are some
points that i would like to know if i can do it on linux/java:
I use:
1. vb to program my "business objects" which is essentially an activex dll
which contains all the business rules.
2. Microsot transaction server (MTS) in order to set the transaction
properties of the various objects
3. MsDtc to handle my connection to remote sql server database
4. Active Server Pages for front end or Sometime a vb exe
In summary the famous "N-tier".Well i would to know the pros and cons on
switching to java/linux specially the tools available and the time involved
for development.

I tried booting a ThinkPad600e using a 8MB FD but failed with a "LI" from LILO.
I used the same mini-Linux (ZLINUX) which I have on a Linux-fix 7MB partition.
This package serves as a rescue as well as a bootable system. I am fairly
certain that I did everything right and can boot into the flash disk from
another Linux partition.
I previously tried booting an OS/2 mini partition that way but the CPU
would not accept the flash disk as bootable.

I have Slackware 7.0 and upgraded the kernel to 2.2.14 and X to version
4.0.2.
Now only KDE desktpop appears to be fully functional. Gnome is sorta
functional and all I get out of Elightenment is the splash screen with
not controls.
Do I need to reinstall (shotgun approach) those desktops or are there
some links and config files that can be fixed. If the latter any clues
where to start looking? I've looked at the obvious permutations of
xinitrc and no help there.

Hi,
My motherboard has 2 ordinary IDE controllers and 2 RAID controllers
supported by HPT370.
I found from Redhat Linux's web site that the kernel can automatically
detect the HPT370 chip for me if I can specify some kernel parameters during
boot time. But what should I enter for the kernel parameters?
e.g linux ide2=0x1e8
I would be grateful if anyone is able to help me solve this problem.
Thanks for your attention.

Look at 'void mtrace (void)' and 'void muntrace(void)' functions,
in 'mcheck.h'.
mtrace() start tracking malloc, free, realloc into a file which name is
given
by the shell variable MALLOC_TRACE.

The virtual disk is a file in a directory on your ext2 Linux partition.
Mine is in /home/steve/vm.
You only specify a partition if you want a raw drive....(I think? - only
done it once - no problems). Virtual drives shouldn't need what you are
saying you are doing....

I have been getting too many crashes lately. I got memtest86 and it says
everything is fine (though the program crashed (locked up) instead of
exiting after the last of the default tests. I have 512 Meg RAM, so it
took over two hours to run.
Can you tell if it is a good program? Or is it just giving me a false
sense of security?
My Linux crashes in the same place when it crashes; when dialing up my
ISP. All the hand shaking is done and the ISP is just about to tell me
my IP address and their IP address, but instead, the system is totally
crashed.
It was suggested that I may have memory problems, so I ran two kinds of
memory test programs and they both indicate that memory is OK. Since it
is a Red Hat system, I did rpm -Va on the system, and it seems to think
my software is correct. Of course, and astute cracker could have
replaced the networking stuff and updated all my rpm files and my log
files so I cannot tell. If the USPS would ever get me my new CD-ROM, I
would re-install all my system software from fresh. I do not wish to use
my existing CD-ROM because it is Red Hat Linux 6.0 that is way too old.

What if you do not have a Windows or DOS boot disk because you have no
Microsoft software and no license? I.e., what if you really have a
Linux-only system?

Are you sure about that? When I sit at machine A and ssh -X machineB,
and then run Netscape on machine B, Netscape runs on machine B, but
exports its window to the X server on machine A. I.e., only the X-Server
is running on A.
Could it be that the original poster has NFS or something running so
machineB can see the files on machineA?

Thanks guys. I'll try a win boot disk first then bootdisk.com if that
doesn't work.
One other question, would it work to boot up with a win98 boot disk,
remove it, then run the disk with the bios utility? Or should I add the
bios utility and update to the win98 boot disk? I think I remeber the
bios page saying somthing about haveing nothing else on the disk besides
the update and utility..

Newer versions of sendmail (e.g., sendmail-8.11.2) put the file in

When you compiled the new gcc, did you "make" or "make bootstrap"?
I think you need the second one.

Hi,
I have a HP Laserjet 4ML attached to a Linux box running RH 6.2. I
configured the printer using printtool, setting resolution to 600x600
(the printer has that resolution) printing text with the "fast text"
option enabled is ok, but everything else (including text with "fast
text" not enabled) is too large, i.e. only the upper left of the page
is printed, and everything is way too big. If I set resolution of the
printer to 300x300 it's ok, but of course I want to use what the
printer is able to ;) (And I'd like to use the "Laserjet 4 - dithered"
driver, since graphics look much better then).
Any ideas?

If you want to dig into it, check out the Linux-From-Scratch-HOWTO

It's about setting a system up just from the sources - including the boot

Why don't you use some drive imaging program? That would be the first thing
