pump does work good usually in my expierience.
Setup a pump.conf file if needed (How? It's in the manpage)

I suppose this still has to do with your previous posting
about losing your connection.

run pump -s to see it's current settings
The lease renewal time is there too

The logs of pump are in /var/log/messages
(Is pump still runnning? `ps -aux`)

For mounting a Windows partition under Linux try the following:
At first create a mount point for the partition. This is a simple Directory
and can be anywhere. Mostly it is a Directory under /mnt. Let's call it
/mnt/win. After you have done this, type the command mount /dev/hdc1 -rw -t
vfat /mnt/win. Now your partition is accessible under /mnt/win. /dev/hdc1 is
the device name of the partition. Perhaps you have to to use another one. For
explaination, hdc means the master drive on the second ide channel and one is
the first partition on this drive (eg. /dev/hda1 means the first Partition of
the primary master). If the command above is too long for typing anytime you
need the partition change the /etc/fstab. Add the line /dev/hdc1
/mnt/win vfat noauto,rw,user 0 0. This causes the mount-command to
mount /dev/hdc1 to /mnt/win with the filesystem vfat in read-write-mode by
any user and not automatically at booting everytime you type mount /dev/hdc1.
Unfortunately, I don't know what's meant with the 0s. If you find out, let me
know. But this should work.

Some points to ponder:

1. The boot would like to have a partition on first disk accessible by BIOS
disk drivers. I recommend making a small (8 - 16 MB) Linux ext2 partition at
the very beginning of first hard disk before installing Microsoft packages.

2. The Windows 98 C: should be a FAT16 partition to make NT boot properly.
The NT boot (ntldr) does not understand FAT32. The limitation does not apply
to Windows 2000.

3. The Windows installation program tends to behave like the only system on
disk. Create the C: partition and the extended partition to cover the rest
of the first disk with Linux fdisk before starting Windows installation.
Boot Windows from floppy with format and format C: before starting
installation.

4. Keep boot diskettes of the installed systems handy. Pretty often the
installers destroy the boot sectors of each other.

Good luck!

Is there any Linux software available that would let a

Preferrably using a X/Gnome/KDE app.

The exclusion of backing up the "/dev" directory is very
common. If necessary it can be rebuilt using "/dev/MAKEDEV",
or copied from your distributions CD. You might want to exclude
all "tmp" directories too.

Remember "/dev/st0" is your tape's yo-yo mode, "/dev/nst0" is the
non-rewinding device (tape).

Subject: How burn wav files to cd audio ?
Date: Fri, 02 Feb 2001 14:04:01 GMT

Hi,

I got ecawave 0.3.3 development files with ecasound 1.8.5 and
qtecasound... as needed. I recorded
2 *.wav files. They are 2 sides of a tape. I want to paste them
together. I tried copy and paste in 2 gnoise windows but that did
not do anything.

I then found ecawave and tried that. It might load a little slower
than gnoise, but it looks nice and I like the box that shows its
loading. I then tried to open one and copy it. One improvement I
saw that would help is having buttons that would go to the beginning
and end of the sound. I had to manually try to get as close as possible
to the beginning as I could and I doubt I could get the beginning and
would lose something.

Anyway, from what I remember from the other day, ecawave did better
in that it looked like it did let me paste the one sound into the
other one which was good. But when I saved it and played it, it just
played the first sound and not the second.

Actually I just tried it again now, and it looks like the paste does
not really work. It basically does the same as open. It just puts the
second file there in place of the first.

I tried cat file1.wav file2.wav > file3.wav before and that did not
work. It just played the file1.wav I think. I am guessing their must
be markers so it won't work that easy??

Anyway, does ecawave's paste not work? and do you know of something
else that will let me do this? I would like to be able to see and
edit it though like in your program so I could get rid of the dead
space.

Also since you are into sound, do you know what format I need to burn
a wav file onto a cd with so a regular cd player can use it? And do
you know of linux software that will do this? I have used xcdroast for
data, but I don't think it will let me do what I need.

Last night I tried getting cdrdao/gcdmaster. Cdrdao is obviously harder
to use being command line so I tried gcdmaster. But when I tried to
pick
a wav file and hit OK it just sat there. It would not let me hit OK. I
think
I then tried 'Import' and clicked on a 217mb wav file and it did nothing
and
in the morning the window was obviously froze up. Actually maybe that
was
gtoaster that I killed this morning.

I did not try any of the few KDE programs because KDE 2.0(?) was too
buggy
and I finally tried to upgrade it to the 2.01 and it complained of
dependencies
and I never got it installed all the way.

Will this work? What should I use to save *.wav to cd audio of whatever
format?
Should I convert wav to something else first? If I need to use cdrdao
can someone
give me an example?

Thanks.

The difference here is that packets for 192.168.0.26 are not being routed. In
the original problem packets were being routed, but the machine was down.

I would accept the theory that this is a problem with my sanity and not the
machines, but I did a fair amount of testing when the problem occurred and
I'm pretty sure that it in fact was related. Hmm..

My guess is the new kernel modules overlaid the old ones. I'm sorry,
this is an area where I'm kind of muddy, so I can't be sure. Have a
look at the directories under /lib/modules paying particular attention
to the modification dates of the modules you find there.

My point is that you may be running the old kernel with new modules,
and the new modules would not work, so there would be problems in some
areas. You might look at dmesg to see if there are reports of module
loading problems. Or just try to load some module and see if you get
an error.

I can't imagine how recompiling the kernel and NOT running it would
affect KDE. But if the kernel is unable to load the driver for your
graphics card, well, maybe that would affect KDE.

cdrecord is pretty good.
first convert to *.cdr

sox song.wav song.cdr

then burn it:

cdrecord -v speed=4 dev=0,1,0 -audio song.cdr song2.cdr ...

or why not mp3?

for I in *.mp3
do
        mpg123 ---cdr - "$I" | cdrecord -audio -pad -nofix -

Greetings!

I have just built a new system with two hard disks, TurboLinux Workstation
6 on one, and Windows 98 SE on the other. Both OS's boot and run fine, but
I have no networking or sound on the linux side, although everything is
working fine on the Windows side. I assume this is an IRQ problem (?) but
am not sure in linux how to resolve that. When I go into turbosoundcfg,
and try to set the IRQs and DMAs to the same as they are on the Windows
side, I get an error when I try to save the changes, and turbosoundcfg
quits.

My network card is a 3Com 3509b (ISA) and my sound card is a Sound Blaster
16 PCI.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Don't have a LAN but I got the same messages with RedHat 7.0.
Lost two days trying to understand and fix.

Finally, went to http://www.cvshome.org/ and downloaded
ftp://ftp.cvshome.org/pub/linux/rpm/cvs-1.11-1.i386.rpm.

No problem now...
