Have you though of setting up a perl script, which could then be run via the
cron daemon (crond) every x minutes (or however often you wanted to analyse
the results).

perl can access the db, and can be made to analyse just about anything, some
major companies happen to use it for checking their data for fraud, and
today i just found out from slashdot that their is a 7 kline piece of perl
that will decode DVD CSS encryption (perhaps an insult to the term
encryption!)

perl could do it nicely. but you will have to write it yourself. but you can
find tutorials on how to do this for free on the net. and example code..

He means same system --

Let's see... mmm... ps -Ao fname, vsz |grep tclsh... pmap 6514...
mumble mumble... count on fingers...

Looks like between 250 and 300 Kb for each new interp on both
Linux and Solaris. The rest is .so's.

No, by somebody who tells them they can have enough resources
to support one Linux configuration, and once they start
generating revenue, they can have more resources. If you can
only support one configuration, you pick the most popular one.

If you think there's such a large market for commerical Linux
databases, stop sitting on the sidelines and complaining.
Write a database and support it on 20-30 Linux distributions.

Subject: Delay when connecting to pop3 on local server
Date: Mon, 12 Mar 2001 16:00:22 -0800

I've noticed that when I use any of my email clients to check my mail on
my server machine from another machine on the network it's a little
slow. It connects, then takes about 2 seconds to authenticate, checks
the mail and then takes about a second to disconnect. But if I check my
ISP email account it connects, checks mail and disconnects in about a
second.

I know it's not a big problem but does anyone know what would be causing
the delay? The thing I don't get is I use a local address (192.168.0.4)
as the server address in my client, so shouldn't it be connecting
faster?

I'm running Mandrake 7.2. Could it be somthing with the pop3 program? I
have three machines connected on the local network but I'm not running
anything like named or DNS. When I type the hosts command with one of
my machines or a machine IP (hosts machine2, hosts 192.168.0.2) it says
host not found. I don't know if that has anything to do with it.

TIA

I have Red Hat 7.0. Lilo is not in PATH when I bring up rescue CD/disk. Guess
it's YMMV.

I created a logical partition that was between two existing partitions. I
solved the problem by deleting it with Linux fdisk, which restored things such
that PM and other OSs were happy, and then recreating it with PM.

What printing system do you use? The code for detecting printers
changed with the new version of gimp-print. However, the original
user might want to try upgrading to Gimp 1.2; the detection code there
should be more robust.

Yeah. C-Media makes junk and supports it poorly. But it is cheap!

C-Media does not support the /dev/sndstat device, which is now obsolete for
new Linux applications. Ignore it and requests to it and documentation which
talks about it.

As far as I can tell, cmpci and soundcore are it for drivers. May be your
mixer is not turned up. Kinda forget about midi files. They will only work
with timidity++. Also, the only format you can use without a lot of
screwing around which I can't remember at the moment is *.wav. Enjoy!

'Andre' is wildly optimistic. The real 'short answer' is 'maybe'. For

the nice folks at UMAX just don't give a shit about us Linux dweebs.

I tried to get PHP working, but I don't know how. I read many of the

I am totally confused. Is there a easy way that I can download the RPM and
install it? I don't want to download the source code and recompile them (I
am scared, coz I am newbie). Is there an existing binary file I can
download?

I think... what I am looking for is "mssql70.so"

Does anyone know of an application that can replace windoze media player,
mainly for the audio feeds?

The main reason i need it is to be able to retrieve my messages from my

Pagoo used to have real audio feeds, but have done away with them. All
feeds are now like so:

foolink/sendPCMWaveMessage.asp?

I have contacted thier support. They told me to go back to windows. Yeah
right.

I am affraid you haven't understood my question. I am already doing more
or less of what you suggested but in a RedHat like fashion as my distro
is very similar to RedHat's.
Anyway I have found out the real issue: djbdns opens UDP ports above
1025 randomly. As it directly opens sockets (so I've been told or at
least so I have understood) kernel constraints don't apply. I think nmap
does the same, so much so I have to specify the port I want it to bind
when performing a scan.
