Hello,
who owns a CDD2000 and is able to execute
cdrecord -msinfo dev=0,1,0

I've got CDD2000 and no multi-session is

cdrecord -v -speed=2 dev=0,1,0 -multi /tmp/image
but when trying to eval msinfo:

Mahogany looks promising but AFAIK it is not quite ready

Subject: C35i linux port
Date: Wed, 21 Mar 2001 13:38:47 +0100
Hi all,
not sure if this is the right newgroup, but I was wondering if anyone is
interested in starting work on a linux port to mobile phones, especially the
siemens C35i since I got one of those, and since there has been some work
done on a compiler to the c166 processor from infineon (the one inside the
e-gold chipset) I don't think we should aim towards an system that can
actually handling telephone-calls, but more towards a running 'linux' with a
display driver and keyboard driver for the phone..
But before all that, we must figure out how to upload a system into the
phone, putting in new firmware is easy, but we need to be able to 'swap'
between nonsense and the firmware without any damage to the phone, sim etc.
When able to do something like that, it would be nice to do a little 'hello
world' test in the phone, then the real work can start. But for now I am
stuck: I have a little program able to analyze the firmware for the phone,
and how it is send (little packets using memory adressing, length and
checksum). But any alteration results in an final checksum failed (I altered
the images, changed the checksums for those packets, and it uploads
perfectly). I cannot find that final checksum, I know that before the real
flashing starts, a little program is uploaded into the phone responsable for
flashing and uploading the real software.. somewhere inside resides a
checksum for the whole software. What I need is someone able to decompile
the uploading program to check it out bit by bit to see how it is really
done.. and how the phone gets its final initialization. I don't have that
many experiece with that, so any help is welcome.
Feel free to email me with any questions.

This is a feature.
In my ~/.Xdefaults file is (among other things):
! This resource specifies whether or not to ignore the 'alternate
screen'
! of applications such as vi. When it is on, these applications will
restore
! the contents of the screen when they are exited to what they were
before
! they were started. When it is off, the contents of vi will remain
on the
! screen after the program is quit.
XTerm.VT100.titeInhibit: true
For me, the results of less and man disappear when I exit them. I
assume setting this to false will make it go the other way. I cannot
imagine how they picked that name for it.

You wont get very far without compiling 'kdelibs' then 'kdebase'; at least,
thats the order I did it in. After that, I don't think it matters all that

How do I get my correspondents to buy Adobe's Acrobat and use it when
they are so used to running Microsoft Word or some HTML writer (such
as Netscape or Microsoft Internet Explorer or Outlook Express)? They
are so proud of having the latest Microsoft stuff that nothing can
induce them to switch. When I send their stuff back, saying I cannot
read it and to use something standard, they say I should get my
machine fixed.

The mtrr entry in /proc looks odd to me
[root@localhost /root]# ls -l /proc/mtrr

it contains
reg00: base=0x00000000 ( 0MB), size= 128MB: write-back, count=1
reg01: base=0xe2000000 (3616MB), size= 32MB: write-combining, count=1
every other entry (except kcore) has a size of 0
Is it possible to create a normal file in /proc ?
I'm running kernel 2.4.1, XFree 4.0.2 and Nvidia's 0.9-767 driver,
MTRR support is set to yes in the kernel
I used to set the mtrr in rc.local but I've removed that now.
I also get this message in /var/log/messages
mtrr: no MTRR for e2000000,400000 found
I think X or the Nvidia driver is setting this.
Any ideas?

Yes. I receive several e-mails that have the best and richest content
when I can display HTML. Otherwide they are almost unreadable.
I want the widest possible range of compatibility. The function set
being built into mail these days is moving away from plain text....but
at least following a universal standard (html/java). If the mail client
can't do these things, in the near future it will make mail difficult
from commercial sources and from come government agencies who are
adopting html and java for function-rich information delivery.

It is a tool which converts postscript files/documents to pdf. It is
quite usefull as postscript is the standard file format in UNIX for
printable documents, for instance the "print to file" option in
Netscape navigator will result in a postscript file.
Usage: "ps2pdf file(.ps)" which will result in a file.pdf in Adobe's
Portable Document Format.
The disadvantage of postscript is that it is quite large, and it never
made it in the Microsoft world (where incompatible word formats and
bitmap images rule the day). PDF files are generally smaller, and are
now quite accepted on windows platforms.
For the people using (la)tex to make their documents using pdflatex is
recommended though, over using latex->dvips->ps2pdf as that allows for
much more versatility such as clickable hyperlinks within the document
and to outside URL's and those thumbnail pages used for navigation.

i've downloaded the glibc2.2.2 and want to upgrade my glibc2.1.3. I've done
the following:
./configure --prefix=/usr --enable-add-ons
make
make install
and "make install" exits with the error "ln: no such file or dictonary"(or
something like that). AFAIK "make install" deletes /lib/libc.so.6 and then
wants to copy the new to this position, but after deleting /libc/libc.so.6
all shared linked programm, include the shell, won't work anymore.
What have i done wrong ? and how can i do it better ?

So tell them not to send you it. After all, I don't write to you in
swahili, unless I know that you understand swahili. If you insist
on encouraging swahili documents, then send them for translation when

It is NOT moving away from plain text! If you want to send a fancy html
message, then send them the link and a passwd and dump the page on your httpd

There is no function served by html and java that is not covered by
ascii. After all, a human being has to receive it, and he doesn't speak
java or html.

I've been using Netscape too, but every new release seemed to get buggier and
more bloated (e.g. takes ages to start up) so now I had enough...
Since I'm using KDE, I tried KMail for email and KNode for newsgroups.
So, far I'm satisfied with the switch. KMail does support html & java, but
it is turned off by default, you have to change it in the Settings menu if you
need that stuff (although I aggree with others, that email should stay ASCII).

Stupid point. None of the 'extensions' to standard email are intended
to be interpreted directly by people. Plenty of packages do support
html, embedded pictures etc - I don't know about java.
The more mail packages support this stuff, the more pressure there will
be for new standards.
With mime etc, is there even that much need for new standards ?

Create a simple comma-delimited file with the data separated by
commas and new-line. Excel will be able to read the file and put
the data into cells.
He will have no fancy fonts and so on, but the file will be understood
by everybody.

Well, M$ probably didn't want to base their GDI on an Adobe technology.
They could, and most certainly did, make a far bigger balls of it
themselves !

Well yes and no. Quite a few people have never downloaded a 6 or 8 meg
PDF viewer, and far fewer still have forked out money Distiller !
PDF is further loathed as many documents are authored with printing
turned off which makes it hard to read a PDF file in the bath or on the
bus !
