I had that problem in linux when my nvidia graphics acceleration was turned
off. You might also make sure it is set to full using xconf or something
similar.

Subject: smart media and linux? (esp. w/ notebooks)
Date: 1 May 2001 14:10:30 GMT
Ok, i hope i don't get flamed for too many mini-postings but i figured i
would risk it. I previously posted about compact flash due to the fact that
i was dazzled by the ability to just plug it into a pcmcia slot (with a
converter) and use it like a hard drive. Unfortunatly the cammera i am
drooling over uses "smartmedia" (the Olympus America Camedia C-2040). What
kind of support of linux have for smart media? While i am at it, would
anyone happen to know if (assuming it exists) converting USB to serial would
be a problem? (i have a old notebook).
Thank you for any help!

This may have surfaced before but anyway FWIW...
Some combos of old video cards/chips and X servers trash the console
screen on exit from X.
Running this script which consists of 2 commands from /etc/rc.d/rc.M
restores the console screen here.
However it doesn't work here unless a user font is actually reloaded.

Is this what it actually says? If so, I'm surprised that Apache even
starts with such a badly malformed config file. The correct version of
that config file segment should be:
<Directory /home/*/public_html>
AllowOverride FileInfo AuthConfig Limit
Options MultiViews Indexes SymLinksIfOwnerMatch IncludesNoExec
<Limit GET POST OPTIONS PROPFIND>
Order allow, deny
Allow from all
</Limit>
<LimitExcept GET POST OPTIONS PROPFIND>
Order deny, allow
Deny from all
</LimitExcept>

Change it to what you want/need in your .slrnrc - look for `set
hostname' and `set username'. If you don't have a .slrnrc in your ~/home
you'll need to create one.

And if you know how to use make, then you can look for the 'install' target
in the makefile, find out what gets installed where, and either create your
own 'uninstall' target or write a script to do the uninstalling. Assuming
you might want to uninstall at a later date, that is...

We have experienced a mail problem with RedHat 7.1.
Apparently we now need to explicitly include sendmail
in /etc/hosts.allow or else tcpwrappers intervenes.
We also remade sendmail.cf, but we are not sure that was necessary.
Has anyone encountered something similar?

Maybe this from the RELEASE-NOTES for RH 7.1 is of interest:
==
...
o Sendmail -- By default, sendmail does not accept network
connections
from any host other than the local computer. If you want
to
configure sendmail as a server for other clients, please
edit
/etc/mail/sendmail.mc and change DAEMON_OPTIONS to also
listen on
network devices, or comment out this option all together.
You will
need to regenerate /etc/sendmail.cf by running:
m4 /etc/mail/sendmail.mc > /etc/sendmail.cf
Note that you must have the sendmail-cf package installed
for this to
work.

Hi all.
I recenty have installed Mandrake 8.0, and I must say I am quite happy
with it. There is however a small problem with my modules and X. I am
using an matrox g400 video card, and am running xfree86 in DRI mode.
However, the required modules agpgart and mga are not loaded
automatically. If I do 'insmod agpgart;insmod mga' prior to starting X,
everything works fine, so the only problem is that these modules are not
loaded automagically. I was wondering if it is possible to force the
loading of these modules on bootup of my system or on startup of X by
tweaking some module configuration file or X configuration file? As a
temporarily workaround I have added 'insmod agpgart;insmod mga' at the end
of my rc.sysinit, but surely there has got to be a more elegant way of
dealing with this issue?
Thanks for any and all feedback.
Sincerely,
J.Smith

This looks like it's simply a device read error. Got a better CD? Or
a different cdrom drive to read it with?
I've noticed a couple of cdrom incompatibilities lately, with home-burned CDRs.

This is a known problem with RH private group. You
either give up privacy by letting others to read your
home directory (chmod o+r /home/*) or put user html

Has someone out there solved the problem of making Linux recognise an

The printer works perfectly in windows on the same machine, Win98, Pentium

In a HOWTO on printing it is noted as questionable possible but not
explained how to make it work.
In my Red Hat Linux 6.1 there is even a filter for Oki4w, but again no
explanation for HOWTO.
It's obviously not a hardware problem but some rounabout way of printing

Does anyone know if there are any programs out there similar to
enlightenment's icon box? I'd like to try switching to gnome/sawfish, but
I cannot stand the windows style taskbar or the mac style drop down task

really like the mini-screenshot feature, I find that I am much much more
efficient using that, I don't have to read or look at tiny icons, I just
see a small pic of what I want, usually know what app I'm grabbing just by
the color.
Thanks,
