Well, I dont know what could have happened to mess things up but you
could
work around it by removing all the gnome directories and X config files
in your home directory.
Then when you log in it should act like it was your first login. It will
recreate all the
X configuration files and directories like you re a new user.
You will have to re-customize your desktop, but your presonal settings
werent working all that well for you anyway :)
try deleting the following directories and files from your home dir.
If this doesnt work, you can back up personal data and remove the whole
user account. Deleting all directories and subs.
Then recreate the account.

I should add - my dosemu is suidroot; dosemu.users & autoexec.bat &
config.sys are all pretty straightforward; i'm using a bootdir rather than
an hdimage [obvious from dosemu.conf].

You're thinking of HFS, not HPFS. HFS is used on both hard disks and
CD-ROMs, although Apple's been using HFS+ on hard disks for some time,
rather than HFS.

HFS support appears in the filesystem section of the kernel. That's also
where HPFS support appears. Chances are the poster was referring to
IBM's HPFS, which is used with OS/2 (and some early versions of Windows
NT -- HPFS was actually written by Microsoft).

Concerning the original questions, I'm unaware of any tools to do a
high-level HPFS format from within Linux. Likewise, AFAIK the only way
to write HPFS EAs from Linux is to use them to store Linux ownership
and permission information, and that only works with the 2.4.x kernels
(or backports of the read/write driver to 2.2.x kernels). AFAIK,
there's no way to access other HPFS EAs from within Linux. You might
check the HPFS documentation in the kernel directory tree, though --
there might be some clues there if the HPFS driver has some hooks into
the EAs that you might be able to use.

There are several ways to do this. Which is best depends on your needs.
In brief, the less radical solutions include:

- Install a second NIC in Machine A, set it up with Microsoft's ICS
(which comes with Win2K), install a NIC in Machine B and configure it
to point to Machine A as the gateway/router. (I believe that ICS
includes a simple DHCP server, so you can do this by telling Machine B
  to use DHCP.)
- Do as just described, but reverse the roles of Machine A and Machine
  B. In this case, you'd use Linux's IP masquerading instead of ICS.
(There's an IP masquerading HOWTO document with details.)
- Buy a separate gateway box, connect it to the Internet, and connect
both your computers to the gateway box. This works well with cable or
DSL connections, for instance, using residential broadband routers.

There are other possibilities, too. Post more details about what type of
connection you've got and what your needs are if you want a more
specified answer.

locate /manX

where X is the section.

Doesn't appear to have the same options as the top I built on Solaris.
Using RedHat-7.1 here. Try

# top > top.txt
^C

Then edit the resulting file.

I can't seem to run xgamma because of this error:

Xserver is running an old XFree86-VidModeExtension version (0.8)
Minimum required version is 2.0

>From what I heard, I have the latest XFree86:

XFree86-4.0.3-5 (from rpm).

I am using RedHat Linux 7.1. Any ideas? Thanks! :)

Personally I would put OpenBSD on machine A. But I suppose you're stuck
with Windows. And implementing ipchains and ipmasquerade is certainly
going to go beyond your present knowledge and ability.

Install and configure Internet Connection Sharing on the Windows box and
take it from there. I don't use Windows 2000 so I can't give you precise
instructions. This after all is a Linux news group.
