Subject: Unresolve symbols of device driver.
Date: Thu, 31 May 2001 04:02:01 GMT

I have removed, recomplied and installed Linux on my computer. Recently, I
got a new communication board with
its device driver. But when I try to use it, it gives me a bunch of error
messages and it says there're some undefined symbols. I try to use the same
device and its driver on another Linux box with default settings, and this
time the device works. So I am wondering which component I am missing for
my optimal system. Here's the listing of the error messages I got.

If I remember correctly, I had to add apache to the starting runlevels.
Look at how to add it to start at the runlevels you want.
Activate it using the ntsysv command. Make sure the httpd is selected to start.

What is the purpose of a loop device? Is it the same as a RAM disk?
Under what circumstances would I want to use one?

Thanks.

If you download a cd iso image or a floppy image, then you can
mount them as if they were actual devices.

mount -o loop cdimage.iso /mnt/cd

Well, that's not quite a terrifically verbous logfile.
Try dialing out with some sort of terminal program
like minicom, and see what it is that the ISP sends and
expects.

the ISP to start a login procedure, which obviously never
happens.

Well, you should make sure you have a good iso image. Did you check it
for its signature (run md5sum on the iso image, and check it against
the signature on the ftp site). If you downloaded in pieces, it could
be that they didn't get back together properly.

The next question might be, "How good is your cdburner?"

As best I can tell, the iso images are the same as if you bought a
shrinked-wrapped copy.

Subject: Which mail reader / MTA combo with advanced features
Date: 30 May 2001 23:30:09 -0700

Good <local time of day>,

I wonder if there is any mail reader / MTA combo that has these
features:

- do all of the following for POP3 mailboxes

- do all of the following for the same POP3 mail account on different
PCs (reason: I work with different PCs at home and at work, and may
decide to download *certain* messages to both PCs, but not all
messages)

- only download the mail *headers* on the first pass, and download
*only those* headers that have not been downloaded yet *to this PC*
(reason: there may be several thousand old messages in the mailbox)

- allow to flag in the mail reader which messages should be deleted on
the POP3 server (e.g. obvious spam mails), without downloading the
message body

- allow to flag that while a certain message should be deleted from
the server, it should be kept on the PC (reason: to make room on the
server in case of mails with big attachments, while keeping the
attached files on the PC)

- allow to flag that while a certain message should be deleted on the
PC, it should be kept on the POP3 server (reason: I might want to get
rid of a new work-related mail header/body on my home PC, but still
download the header the next day on my work PC)

- allow to flag some messages that should be downloaded (but not
deleted from the server) in the next pass, while the body of the
non-flagged messages will not be downloaded

Any hints which combination of MUA/MTA (or which add-on utility) could
fulfill these tasks would be more than welcome.

Thanks,
Tom
