PC speaker 'beep' not emulated ?

Hello,

I can't get dosemu to 'beep' despite setting dosemu.conf $_speaker to 
"native" or "emulated".

I'm running Dosemu 1.0.2 and Mandrake 7.2, Linux kernel 2.2.17.

Is the non-beeping a known issue ?
