Try a game like Screamer 2 (3d racing game) or Mugen (fighting game engine).
I actually read that SVGA support is better in xdos (although slower) -- it 
appears that a game called Swiv 3D correctly displays colours in xdos, but
not console dos.

I agree on this point because of i386 architecture limitations but I do 
believe that dosemu can do better on DPMI.

Money and the fact that I would have to pay even more for the next versions.
And vmware is comparatively slow.

Yes, DPMI games (esp. with sound) have crashed my win98.
DJGPP has crashed Win2k.
DosEMU has *never* crashed.
But then and again, the "rawkeyboard" option which is neccessary for
direct keyboard access by many games (and the ones I write too!) can lock
up the keyboard, while in Win2k, CTRL+ALT+DEL can usually fix it.
