sure, if you need to copy something from the CDROM then can you do that 
with linux?  all you have to do is mount the drive first, I can explain 
that if you want.  You really should get the password for root, 
regardless of what you need to do.  If you can't ask the guy then 
you'll need to boot into single user mode from a boot disk.  The message 
"cannot open display" is what you get when you try to run an X-windows 
program from the command line, I don't know why dosemu would report this; 
how do you start dosemu?  did you type "dos".
