John, Denis and List,
I've subsequently done some testing... Using Win 95,
I configured the connection to open a terminal upon
successful connection. When I attempt to send the
login and passwd as clear text, the same failure
occurs. Yes, it seems my login and password are
being sent as hidden data.
I have little more than a rudimentary understanding of
PPP/PAP/CHAP; I suspect when this episode is over,
I'll know more about it than I care too.
I asked the Prodigy Tech Rep if PAP or CHAP was
being used. He indicated that neither was being used.
As far as some "proprietary" dialer... When I subscribed
to Prodigy, I started with plain, simple Internet Explorer.
I configured the dial-up connection manually (according
to Prodigy's instructions), entered the phone number and
connected to the server. -No Problems. Although not
entirely conclusive, this seems to rule-out a problem with
proprietary configurations.
For now, thanks for your help. I'll continue to work
this issue until it's resolved.
Regards
Ray
