List,
This episode terminates with a happy ending.
First, I'd like to thank the people who took time to
reply to my post. Thanks!
After some gentle persuassion, I managed to speak with
a knowledgeable Tech Rep at Prodigy. Once I got in contact
with the right person, it took less than 5 minutes to get
things working.
Regards

Here's how to configure Linux (MacMillan/Mandrake Version 6.1, Slackware
Kernel 2.2.13-4mdk) using kppp to work with
Prodigy Internet...
1) Start up kppp and enter "Setup".
2) Create a new Account (just name it something).
3) Click the Device tab. Set your modem device to the correct
device (i.e. /dev/ttyS0 or /dev/modem... ). Set Flow Control
to CRTSCTS (i.e. hardware flow control). Set Line termination
to CR/LF. Set the speed to the appropriate value (115200 for
56K). Select "Use Lock File" and Modem timeout to 60 secs.
4) Go back to the Account Tab and select Edit.
5) Select Dial and enter the appropriate phone number. Set
Authentication to PAP.
6) Select the IP tab. Select Dynamic IP Address.
7) Select the DNS tab. The domain name for Prodigy is
prodigy.net. Determine youy DNS IP addresses and add
them to the DNS address list.
8) Select the Gateway Tab. Set Default Gateway and
"Assign the Default Route to this Gateway".
That's it! You do not need to setup a "chat" script as all
Usernames and Passwords are handled during PPP/PAP
negotiation. Your Modem Commands must be correct
and if your modem is Hayes compatible, the default values
work fine.
