The ISP wants PAP or CHAP authentication and you're not set up for either.

You need to configure for PAP or CHAP and perhaps remove the chat
login/password expect/send lines.

I'm using a D-Link DFE-650 which is a 10/100baseT pcmcia card and
haven't had any problems with it. It installed nicely and linux
detected it w/o any problems. It was also pretty cheap, i forget

Ive the same problem (on redhat 5.2) than you have and I dont make it to
configure sendmail properly. maybe you can help me:

when my users send mails to the internet from the local machine I want
this mails to have another email-adress as sender as the local one.
in detail : the mails should appear as send from a pop3-account.
I want to configure a different sender-adress for each user. (so I cant
use the DM-section in sendmail.cf)

fetchmail : even your problem seems already to be solved. I start
fetchmail -d 100 in /etc/rd.d/rc.local so that is run as daemon every 100
seconds.
in /root/.fetchmailrc I have lines like

poll s1 proto pop3 user u1 password p1 is localuser1 here
poll s2 proto pop3 user u2 password p2 is localuser1 here
poll s3 proto pop3 user u3 password p3 is localuser2 here

and so on

so every 100 seconds the pop-servers are checked for new mail and the
mail is delivered into each users local mailqueue as if send directely.

Hello all.. I am experiencing some trouble getting a D-Link ISA Ethernet NIC
to work under Slackware. I just upgraded to 2.0.34 kernel. I cannot seem
to get the driver initialized. When I try a 'insmod ne.o' I get:
'kernel_version needed but cannot be found'
I have read EVERY HOWTO and FAQ that I can FIND, I have done web searches,
etc. I cannot get this damned NIC to work. I would really appreciate some
help from the experts on this one.. Also, after I completed an upgrade to
2.0.34, I can no longer mount FAT filesystems or ISO9660 (CDROM)
filesystems. When I attempt to mount one of them, I get 'this filesystem is
not supported by the kernel' and it tells me to check /proc/filesystems.
Both 'msdos' and 'ISO9660' are present in /proc/filesystems, but I cannot
mount them.

I would appreciate any help. If possible, could you CC any replies to my
e-mail.. [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thanks in advance for the assistance.

Check your /etc/mgetty/mgetty.config file, if you have line (if you have

speed 112500

in section about your serial port. Looks like difference is here.
Default value is 38400.

I'm working on this myself right now, and got most of it to work.

> What needs to be modified and how to get mgetty to run?

Assuming you already have mgetty installed, you just need to add a line to
/etc/inittab, such as:
S1:4:respawn:/sbin/mgetty ttyS1
This will cause mgetty to get run on ttyS1 only in runlevel 4. On my RH5.2
system I have runlevels 3 and 4 identical, so I can just switch from 3
(default) to 4 to enable the PPP server and switch back down to 3 to shut
it off. This is because it's on my normal personal phone line. If you want
it on all the time, change the "4" in the above line to e.g. "2345" and it
will be on in all normal runlevels (i.e. not single-user, shut down, or
halt).

> How do I get mgetty to reactivate after my dialing connection is terminated?

The "respawn" keyword in the above line makes mgetty run again each time it
quits.

> How, after I have logged in, can I assign a TCP/IP address to the
> connection?

If you just want PPP, the easiest thing is to let mgetty detect the client
trying to establish a PPP connection, and it will automatically call pppd
to bring up PPP over that link. You might have to recompile mgetty to turn
this feature on (I didn't), and you probably have to edit mgetty's config
files (/etc/mgetty+sendfax/mgetty.config and login.config) too (I did).
Comments in the default config files and the mgetty docs make this part
pretty clear.
Then to set the address, you give options to pppd. This can be done in
mgetty's login.config, or any of several pppd-specific options files. The
client can set their own IP address which will be told to the server side
during the connection setup, or your server can provide the address to the
client. See the pppd man page, looking especially for the option that is
two addresses with a colon between them ( <local IP>:<remote IP>). Oh, and
to do PAP and/or CHAP authorization, you have to edit the
/etc/ppp/pap-secrets and chap-secrets files.

There IS a PPP Howto, although it's a little skimpy on setting up a server.

Good luck.

Hi Peter

I've solved this problem by deleting the 'M' flag in the relay line of the

The line locks something like: relay xxxxx F=xxxxxMxx
( x= some other carracter, I haven't the file handy at the moment)

Hope this helps, otherwise repost question and I will post the entire line

Hello,

I have a 3COM Impact IQ external running on my RedHat Linux, version 2.0.34.
When I boot into Windows, I get two B channels successfully. In Linux,
everything works properly with one B channel (I use AT S80=0 to force one
channel) but two B channels (multilink) do not work.

Specifically, pppd starts up fine, but I can't get any response from any
network program (Netscape, telnet, route, etc. all hang). I'm using KDE's
KPPP utility to connect, and pppd version 2.3.3 according to the logs.

Additionally, I believe all my AT settings are fine. I force the following
modem init string:
 ATZ&d0S71=1S80=0

My log messages are below, but if anyone has any ideas it would be greatly
appreciated.

Depends of size of network. In case of small network (below about 50-80 hosts),
there's no need for two specialists - one for network (as you think, hardware
and other op-systems), another for Unix, so _one_ man must do both. Of cource,
if you have big network with 200-... hosts and several Unix servers, there you
can be _only_ Unix guru.

Look my answer just above. You can't be Unix administrator, if you don't know
networks. Imagine very small 25-50 host netvork with only Unix server (your
ideal) and if your bosses choose (or find it necessary) to install also NT4.0
(or NetWare). Do you really think bosses needs additional admin for NT?

I host a couple of ml.org things off my cable modem (one for me, one for
work).

$ host bang.ml.org
bang.ml.org has address 24.112.37.89
bang.ml.org mail is handled (pri=0) by cr322781-a.ym1.on.wa

$ host asimov.ml.org
asimov.ml.org has address 24.112.37.89
asimov.ml.org mail is handled (pri=0) by cr322781-a.ym1.on.wa

(no, this is not `host` truncating)

My machine's looked-up name is cr322781-a.ym1.on.wave.home.com (see
headers on this post).

WTF?

Is this a holiday burp, or part of the slow burn that is ml.org these
days? I fail to see why they don't keep the successful projects working,
or dammit, ask for more help and get the project back up. I offered ages
ago to help them run their cranky and hard-to-use members' web site, but
they said no.

Who do I tell about this? I can't imagine that nobody's noticed yet, but
the truncation is to 20 characters + \0, and I imagine that most people
don't have such huge domain names.

/Steve
