Ciao,
the problem is that your AIX 4.2 is looking for locking mechnism on
the linux host, which is not implemented in the nfs that goes
with 2.0.35. I believe there is a kernel-space nfsd in 2.1.x kernels,
you might want to go for that, it should also be in the 2.2 kernels
coming soon. Maybe AIX lets you mount the disks without locking,
maybe read only, if you don't need the write permission?
If you want more information, you should search for 'lockd', 'knfsd',
I'm sorry I can't point you to more explicit sites.
Buon 99, spero che il tempo a Milano sia meglio che ad Amburgo!

You probably need to disable Plug-and-Play in your BIOS. At least,
that's how I fixed that problem on my computer.

HylaFAX is a UNIX based fax server system. WHFC is a Win95/NT client
for it.

Not surprising, netbeui is a very small, very fast protocol. Major problem
is its not routable so it will only work in local LANS but apart from that,
its ok.

Make sure you have pppd2.3 (or the latest) I needed to recompile the
kernel and the new pppd It all worked well after that.

Hi!
Can anyone tell me how to set the speed on an Intel EtherExpress Pro100+
ethernet card down to 10MBpS? It is defaulting to 100MBpS but since our
backbone (an Ascend S-DSL router) only talks on 10MBpS, we need to switch it
down. I can't find any documentation on this matter.
Thanks a bunch,

The reason for authentication failure is that NT uses MS-CHAP which encripts
the password. We need to use a modified pppd
using the crypt library. unfortunately I didn't have time to test enough.
The minimal testing I did failed, but I read
reports from people who succeded. Please let me knom if you do succed.

Subject: PPP Dial-Up Access S L O W!
Date: Mon, 04 Jan 1999 09:33:44 -0500
This seems like it would be a pretty common problem but I've searched
the FAQs and haven't seen anything the fits the bill. ...go easy on me,
I'm a Linux infant.
My PPP dial-up access is extremely slow. I have a brand new RedHat 5.2
installation. I chose to install everything so TCP/IP, inet, and all
the other daemons are running.
DNS numbers under network configuration are the ones assigned by my
ISP. I used Linuxconf to configure the PPP connection. Nothing
special, just added the username and password, selected a device and set
the speed to 57500. The modem is a Motorola 28.8 internal.
Anyway, the connection and login seem to go alright. But when I try to
ping a host it takes forever to get a response. Same goes for Netscape;
half the time it's so slow that the browser times times out.
I've tried using straight IPs to see if it's a DNS problem but it still
crawls.
I connect to the same account with win95 and NT machines and they run
very fast.
My Linux machine is a Cyrix166+ with 32Meg of RAM, 32 Meg of Vitrual
Memory an no connection to a LAN.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

When I put up an inet connection between two computers communication is
fine.
But when I unhook the cable the sender seems to send correctly (using
send() or write()).
And when I put back the cable, the data is received correctly.
Is there a way to be (100%) sure that (using send() or write())
the data is received by the receiver and not just only is
accepted by the protocol?
So all I want to know is wheter my package is received or not.
(And not wheter the underlying protocol accepted the package or not)

Normally that card autosenses the speed of whatever hub or router it is
connecting to. I don't know of a switch to force it.

I have used both, and I can say that it is a benefit not to need to
reboot the PC just to reset the modem. With an external modem I can
just flick the switch if something goes wrong with the modem.
Other than this benefit, I don't need to use slot on the motherboard
or worry about the hardware configuration.

I used netcfg from RH 5.x.
It's X program to configure simple net connections.
If you have this program, run it as root in X.
Edit ppp0 (or another one) connection and tick the box : start/stop by
other users.
The users must (I think) belong to the ppp group (not sure).
