Date: Thu, 11 Feb 1999 13:51:30 GMT

Hallo everybody,

i try to connect my S.u.S.E 6.0 PC to our companies Novell IPX network, my
problem is that i have no idea to auto_configure and auto_setup the IPX
protocol on startup.

The solution to type in the ipx_configuration everytime the PC boots up is not
realy that what i'm trying to solve.

Thank you very much for tips ...

the TDK Global Networker 3410 is listed in /etc/pcmcia/config in my
RedHat 5.2 distribution, implying there is support out there for your
card....don't know if it's recent, so you might want to check what's
included with your slackware, and find newer pcmcia support stuff if
necessary.

good luck,

Never mind...I fugured it out. You have to load the module twice (in my
case eexpress), once for each card, and then specify the io and irq
settings. This is done in the conf.modules file.

But is there a way that IDC and ASP works together with Apache?

Linux can do everything you want. You mentioned possibly needing extra IPs, and
you also mentioned IP masquerading. If you are willing to spring for additional
IPs, than everything is easy. You just set up the linux box as a router. If you
don't want to buy the IPs, than you can use IP Masquerading, but it has some
problems with advanced connections, you may have noticed a lot of posts of
people trying to get games working thru IP masq. Also, you would have to set up
something additional to run servers thru IP masq, like port forwarding for
example.

All in all, if you're willing to obtain additional IPs, than you've got it made.
If you aren't, there's a boatload of work involved, but it is possible.

I've never heard of Linux running double ISDNs, but I don't see why not.

mein ip-up script gesetzt...

Meine Passwrter wrde ich allerdings schnellstmglich ndern, auch wenn
theoretisch alle Ports von auen dicht gemacht sind.

I killed the SMB server (Samba) on my Sun as this is all I could see
sending packets and my timeout started working. I've since added
ipfwadm tcp filters specific for my Sun's IP address for port 137 and
139. This seems to work correctly now. I would have thought any browsing
smb server packets would be udp broadcast.

OK, I use Exchange, have used it for a few years, and just rolled out a new
system recently. If you want to do a management summary NOT to use Exchange,
you will need to know why they might want to advocate its use, tto be able
to counter those points.

Point: Exchange is a great tool for collaboration in the business world. The
ability to share calendars, contacts, e-mail boxes, etc. with others within
one PIM is a very powerful agurement for Exchnage's use, especially when you
leverage the relative lack of need of skill/time for the end user to use
Outlook.

Counterpoint: Do you really need the ability to run a bloated PIM in the
academic world? The client alone requires substantial hardware to run, and
may neccesitate expensive upgrades to the client PCs. If you implement
Exchnage, but decide not to use Outlook as the client, or decide to just use
it for IMAP or POP3 mail, why spend the money and time to roll-out and
administer Exchange when a freeware product will deliver mail just as well?

Point: Microsoft BackOffice products are prevalent in the business world.
Saturation makes for good support (ideally) and cross-compliance between
departments/divsions/etc.

Counterpoint: This same ubiqtiousness will tie an academic establishment to
a commercial one. Is this a good thing? In addition, academia has typically
been run on Unix. Why run counter to that? And finally, Windows NT is
expensive. It's not the hardware (BTW, I have servers that have run
forever - my home NT server has never crashed, nor any of the NT4 boxes at
work), nor the software - but the cost to retrain system admins.

You get the idea - go from there. Too many Linux zealots might be
technically savvy, but business stupid. That is part of the reason Linux has
not expanded into the mainstream as far as its merits would allow.

Feel free to contact me if you need more help selling Linux. I am primarily
an NT guy, but I value Linux's strengths and strong competition is good for
us.

I have it...actually I have a 486 running slackware that is a
gateway/firewall/ip masquerade for a network for (ughh..) windoze machines. get
dhcpcd from your favorite Linux software ftp, set it up and connect like so:

# dhcpcd -h foobar

where foobar is the hostname the @home people gave you...hope this helps!

All,

I am new to the Lynx OS.

I am going to be implementing and bench marking a Moto MPC8260
PowerQUICCII microprocessor, VME bus, and 100BaseTX running Lynx OS.

Can someone tell if there are commands that can benchmark CPU
utilization, all types of I/O, MIPS, and anything else related to bench
marking?

Is there free source code that can be compiled?

Thanks in advance.

To give internet access to your net you may:
1) use www cache on linux (e.g. "squid": www + ftp)
2) use ipmasqueraading
for your net linux will be just a router
connections from your net will appear on internet as from linux

"fetchmail" can retrieve email via pop3 and send it via SMTP to
another host (exchange with Internet Mail Connector)
Exchange can send outgoing email itself (ipmasqueraading)

If your ISDN router gets the same IP address every dialup
then you may arrange with your ISP that you will retrieve email
for you domain via SMTP (with ETRN)
