Go for mythology. Our Cluster Server is Gemini, with the 2 machines being
Castor & Pollux. There's quite a few mythological characters, so you
probably won't run out too fast.

Hello!
I am a total linux newbie so i need some help setting up my LAN at
home.
One of the problems i have is getting linux to share my modem. This I
have managed to do with "squid". However i don't know how to get my
sister's ICQ to work with squid. Does squid support icq?
Also I want to do some tinkering with firewalls. I am wondering if
anyone here would be so kind as to help me with that? I am not sure how
to start at all! I recompiled the kernel to run the firewall but that
stoped squid from working. Also I don't know anything about how to
configure the firewall.

Thanks !

We are acquiring a linux cluster
where each slave node is on a closed IP network (10.0.0.* I think)
and the master node converts IP address so that outgoing
connections seems to come from the master node.
I've heard this is called maskerading.

does anybody have experience using a IIOP CORBA (probably mico)
in such a configuration.
if one slave try to connect to an outer corba services, are ther some problems.
what if an outer client try to contact a corba services running on a slave node.

where to place corba daemon ? on the master node, on each slave ?

Hello,

I'm searching a H.323 Gatekeeper software running on an Intel based
Linux server. As far as I know, most products on the market are targeted
for Microsoft Windows NT Server platforms.

Since we are using Linux as a alternative OS, we are interested in H.323
Gatekeeper software for it. Does anybody know about free Gatekeeper
software, any projects in this direction or any companies offering
Gatekeeper for Linux? Thanks for any hints or ideas.

regards,

I am sorry to tell you that PCI token-ring cards are not yet supported.
I know someone is working on it.
The best way to solve your problem is to get your hands on a ISA Token ring
card.
Replace the PCI card with the ISA card and configure it to be NOT plug and play.

There are programs out there, running on windoze, that will, given a range
of addresses/ip's, will scan ports on the given addresses and list them.
There are of course certain ports that are open on Linux/Unix and not on
other OS's such as windows. Therefore if I do such a scan and I find some
computers that listens on port 21, 23 and 25 then that would imply ftp,
telnet and smtp. Which means it might be a unix machine.

Anyway, that's the kind of thing the hacker kidies over here do...

Hi!
Can Visual Basic 6.0 run on a removeable Zip disk?

Is there a work-around to make that possible?

Is there a way to make symbolic system file locations on
the Zip disk so that VB will look there for its system
configuration instead of the C: or whatever drive boots
the operating system?

Can Unix run VB6.0 in Wine and thus over a network
for remote access to VB?

Not sure.
If it's Samba 2.0.2 & you've upgraded from a 1.9... version the default
security model has changed.

You may have to put a "security = ?" line in. ? being user or share.
The security.txt document in the samba documentation does a reasonable
job of explaining it.
Check the changelog for details of what the security was & now is.

HTH.
My opinions are still mine. I think.

Well, my PC is called cartman (ping cartman.ex.ac.uk).

Our machines tend to go in groups, we have dilbert, dogbert, catbert
and ratbert and a group of six dual processor linux machines
named after electrical units because they were described as
'electrical power' on the order. Most of our straight server machines
have boring sequence names.

My SNMP managed switches are named after Marx brothers.

I'm hoping that when our new supercomputer arrives (we're going
through the European tendering right now) I'll be able to call it
Kenny but I suspect it will end up as some turgid acronym.

The problem with masquerading is, I believe, that it only works for
outgoing
connections from the slave node. The master node acts as sort of router
but it
does not know to which slave to route an incoming connection.

Your daemons would therefore have to run on the master to be accessible
from outside.

So I can't start their ppp server. When I do manual dialing (with minicom),
after authentication it gives me a menu with all sorts of options (chat rooms,
telnet, news, etc.), but no 'start ppp service' one. If I start pppd on my
linux, it keeps throwing garbage on the screen (as expected), but never gets
into converstaion with the Cserve server.

Does anyone know the solution? Please share with me the info.

TIA,
Akos
