Hi folks, Can anyone help me/point me towards information about setting up
web based e-mail? Is this more of an HTML/Java question, or are there some
Linux/Unix programs available for this? What I would like to do is to
forward my e-mail via sendmail to my NTserver, and use exchange, and also
forward a copy to a web based email server (preferrably on the Linux machine
running sendmail).

-thanks for any help

Pentium III Serial Number Utility
Intel released the Pentium III Serial number control utility which simply
has the function of enabling or disabling the serial number function. You
can download it here:

Try this:
on win95 start->run, type \\machine_name (the name you assigned to samba
box). Sometimes samba doesn't show up in the Network Neighbourhood. At one
point my samba box didn't show up there (but everything worked), now it
does and I still have no idea what was causing the problem.

How can I configure my mail client (Pegasus over wine) to retrieve
mail from a local pop server and which POP server best to choose. I
tried to install qmail as a complete mail server and local POP server
but could get the system running.

What I would need is to fetch mail from multiple POP accounts and
retrieve via my MUAs POP protocol.

The fetchmail configuration looks pretty straight forward.
Documenation for MUA configuration such as Pegasus or Netscape can
hardly be found.

Did you edit your smb.conf file in /etc? It needs to be setup.
Most of the things there have an explinations and you can find
more detail in the SMB-HOWTO. Also you need to setup passwords
in smbpasswd which is easy - see man for smbpasswd. There is an
encryption got'ya slso for NT but I'm not sure if it apply to 95
- probably does. You have to match encryption types. I think
you can use encrypt passwords = yes and be ok with 95.

Tried it with minicom and I get an "OK" just fine, instantaneously.
Something I noticed is that the first "OK" takes about 30 seconds to be
"**found**".
I looked up the codes in the book and compared them with the USR modems that
work, and they are the same.
Anything else?

Do NOT do what this gentlemen as suggested you do.

All you have to do is add the line:
encrypt password = yes
to your smb.conf file and it will work fine. And yes it works for
95,98 and NT connections.

IP, etc. no problem using Redhat 5.2 and dhcpcd. At work we are using

this implementation. Has anyone else successfully got a linux box to
connect to OpenVMS multinet via DHCP?

Thanx Harald for your gold worth tip

To disable the COM2 (Irq 3) within the BIOS and also to switch off the "PNP
operating system" feature in the BIOS
brought at least my TELES S.0 16.3 PNP up to run.

Here a short summary what happens after this BIOS modification, for all
other TELES users
outside there.
I hope this will help you to save thousand of senseless hours with
configuring a TELES 16.3 PNP adapter

- disable COM2 with this IRQ3 was free.
- reboot system
- read the /var/log/boot.log
because I saw while booting that my PCI Ethernet adapter suddenly used
IRQ 3 (before when COM2 was enabled
the Ethernet adapter uses IRQ 10)
- changed my isapnp.conf file from io0=0x17C0, io1=0x1100, IRQ=4 to
io0=0x580, io1=0x180 IRQ=10
   Now it looks like
       (DEBUG)
       (VERIFYLD N)
       (READPORT 0x0203)
       (ISOLATE PRESERVE)
    #(CSN 2)
       (IDENTIFY *)
       (VERBOSITY 2)
       (CONFLICT (IO FATAL)(IRQ FATAL)(DMA FATAL)(MEM FATAL)) # or WARNING
       (CONFIGURE TAG2110/597667448 (LD 0

       (IO 0 (SIZE 32) (BASE 0x0580))
       (IO 1 (SIZE 64) (BASE 0x0180))
       (INT 0 (IRQ 10 (MODE +E)))

- changed with YAST the ISDN base configuration
    YAST looks now like

        I4L Starten [X]
        ISDN-Protokoll [Euro-ISDN

Hi there!

I got a strange probem. I'm using SUSE 6.0 and I'm trying to set up a
Linux box which should connect the LAN (Win95-nodes) to the Internet via
ISDN. (ipppd connects on demand). The nodes have no DNS an no default
route. The clients only have access to the Internet via squid-Proxy.
Quite often the the connection is kept up, because some packets seem to
be sent forth and back and /var/log/messages says: 'truncated-ip: 16,345
bytes missing'

What do I have to do?

Thanx in advance, Christian

So, how to do it?

Running RedHat 5.2 (2.0.36 kernel)

I had some problems recently, then got the card working for one

Now, EVERY TIME I start the machine I get:

This happens after:

      insmod /lib/modules/preferred/net/8390.o

This thing works perfectly fine under Windows 98, but I DON'T want

I've even tried re-installing Linux... No success.
I've now tried PCMCIA Service 3.05 and 3.09.

The linux box is located on one of the subnetworks. Since the NT server was

I ran the cgi included in the .shtml file at the console and the output is

So You got 2 NIC in your Win95 machine. I assume this is the case. If so, then are
they both on the same
network ie. NIC1 10.2.2.2, NIC2 10.2.2.1. The problem is probably the Win95 machine.
If you have two
different networks under Win95 this could be a problem because Win95 doesn't do
routing. There is a
registery hack for this, but I have tried it but didn't get it to work. The easiest
thing to do would be to
buy a cheap 10MB hub and eliminate one of the NIC cards.

Is this what you have? If you have masquerading on Linux then
you can ping from any box to
the network. Computer 2 is NT with forwarding on. So if thats
it what are your routes?

At a guess, try using a crossover cable. Or get a hub.

Based on one experiment, I think you can do multipath between Linux
boxes by using the equal cost multipath stuff, and can connect to two
totally separate ISPs, specifying both dialup addresses as routes to
your "real address" on the dialup box.

This appeared to work, but was a PITA to setup, so I never bothered
again.

Subject: Small network, Internet connection and caching DNS server

I have setup a caching DNS server and connect to the Internet via dial up
like many other Linux users. Then I added a small fake IP network. The
problems started around then.

For some reason, sendmail thinks it has to look up names while offline.
This causes the mail client to appear to hang sending mail -- what happens
is that the sendmail process is waiting for an answer to its DNS query,
which isn't going to happen while I'm offline. This is very frustrating,
but I managed to alleviate it somewhat by putting an entry into my DNS
tables that points to my fake host IP giving the name localhost (for
reverse lookups).

This didn't last too long, since the name server hangs quite often.
It used to do so every so often, but now it is hung just about all the
time. I tried turning on debugging (-d), but named refused to start.

Any tips? Oh yes, the name server version is 4.9.7.

Subject: Receiving email w/ Redhat Linux 5.2
Date: Mon, 01 Mar 1999 21:06:43 GMT

I have just installed Red Hat Linux for the first time. Everything seems to
be running great. What I would like to do that I can't find any help on is
sending and receiving mail. Actually, I have been using PINE, and I can send
mail fine. The problem is that I can't receive any mail. I have a NT Server
the has MS Exchange, but would like to setup something totally seperate. The
NT Server is also a DNS Server, which I would also like to setup on the linux
machine in the future. I have an MX record on the DNS pointing to the linux
machine, which gets rid of the "Message Undeliverable" errors. I guess now
my messages are just floating in space somewhere. I feel I am very close,
but missing something. Any thoughts or suggestions would be great!! Thanks!
