The file /var/log/messages will contain a clue.
It will also contain your username and password, so be aware
if you post anything.

If you mean a menuing software, most of the voice modems come
with a windows version already. I don't know if anyone has done a Linux
voicemail system yet, but I would be surprised if not.
You should try comp.hardware.sound or the equivalent and ask there.

You specify that in your .htaccess file (Apache web server).

Some people like to keep their server parsed (CGI) pages seperate from
their non-server parsed ones, so they use the .shtml extension. You can
make all .html files server-parsed, but it adds to the load on the
server.

Stephanie;

Busy and locked both refer to a condition where some other
software is using the modem.

As root do a
  ps -Ax | less
Look very carefully at the programs that show up.
Things that can do it are anything that uses a serial port,
any dial on demand software, any getty program.

I think you will find that some software is running.

BTW, does the modem show up in the other OS?
If so, check it's resources.

I think that is Kent's problem. I think he has a port conflict.

A COM port is a piece of hardware. You computer probably comes
with 2 of them. When you get a modem, that is hardware, and it has
a com port also. If you put two com2s in you computer then you
have about the same luck as having 2 drivers in a car.

To add to the problem, Com1 interferes with Com3 and
Com2 interferes with Com4.

Having said that, here are some ways it can all work.
1) Disable The Built in Com1 or Com 2 (I don't know how to do yours)
Set the modem to the port you just disabled.
2) Don't connect ANYTHING to Com1 (Mouse on Com2)
Set the modem to Com3. (I don't know how)
3) Set the modem to Com3 IRQ 5. (I don't know how)
    Tell Linux with the command:
        setserial /dev/cua2 IRQ=5 (put it in /etc/rc.d/rc.serial)

Hope this was as fun for you ass it was for me.

Hi!

Can anybody here help me setup the LW Pro 810 to work with Linux
or W95?

I succeded giving it an IP adress and I can log into it with Telnet.
I'm tried both lpd that was included with RH5.2 and lprng downloaded
from the net.
I thought that the printqueu name is one the of the names that show up
under virtual printers (lpd, post300, genric ....).

With lprng I typed lpr -P [EMAIL PROTECTED] <file> but it is timed out.

As I'm missing the manual for the printer I have a little bit of a
problem configuring all the parameters that are availible in the menu
using Telnet.
Can anybody give me a hint of what's needed to have it work with lpr?

Thanks in advance

Where can I find the format of the file .Xclients? What is the window manager

No I don't *really* need the 2.2.2 kernel and since posting have ditched
it (including the source tree) :-). I recompiled a 2.0.36 kernel that
works fine. I was really looking to get APM installed and the new PPP
which I have done now. The 2.2.2 kernel was just me being curious. I
have also compiled a *very* late developement kernel and it is exciting
to see what people are working on (even if it is a little unstable)!

Hello,

i got some confusing on my home-net. 1 Gateway and 2 Clients

Using a dial-in gateway with some ipfw-rules. Port 21:21, 1024:65535, 53udp are
totally opened and masqued to the Clients inside.
The Junkbuster gives both Clients HTTP on Port8000 and forward it to the
Provider-Proxy at Port8080. At /etc/resolv.conf i have used both
Provider-DNS and all things works well.

Now i have installed the Named at the Gateway, set the Provider-DNS IPs as
forwarders in his configfile. At the clients i set the Gateway as nameserver
in /etc/resolc.conf.

HTTP works well, but no more FTP-URL can be resolved. The Netscape4.5 at says
"cannot resolve hostname". Do the Named only resolv an forward http-adresses?

Tomasz,
I think you want to create an /etc/lmhosts like /etc/hosts
outlined in NET-3-HOWTO. That should stop the complaint about
/etc/lmhosts.
The other things you mention should be taken care of in
smb.conf. See the SMB-HOWTO. If you selected SMB when you
installed you can ignore all the building stuff in the beginning
of the SMB-HOWTO - you just need to go over the configuration
part. Encryption = yes.
You IP being dynamically assigned will not affect Samba. That's
between your server and ISP. The server to intranet will not use
the IP your ISP dynamically assigns.

You can smbmount from Linux your MS network shared drives and see
them with Linux file utilities.

You can make public your Linux drives and have them seen in the
standard manner on MS after you "map network drive" from MS the
Linux drives.
See the SMB-HOWTO

See smbpasswd. Setup /etc/lmhosts using /etc/hosts as a guide -
see NET-3-HOWTO.
Are you using the Linux passwd - yes, NT passwd = no.

How might I view the typed text of another console? I have tried:
 cat /dev/ttyp#

 cp /dev/ttyp#
but both of these approaches do not do their thing transparently. The
text
does get dumped to "my" console, but the text is no-longer being

Hello,
I have 2 networks (net0 - 192.168.1.0 - eth0 and net1 - 192.168.2.0 -
eth1). My linuxbox is the router between those nets. From net0 i can
do a ping to net1 and vice a versa. In net1 are 2 printers connected
to win95 boxes, wich should be used in net0 (also win95/nt boxes).
The problem is, that i can see the boxes in the network neigbourhood
but if i do a doubleclick on them i get a message, that the hosts are
not reachable and my linuxbox establishes a ppp conection to the
internet provider.

Hi,

a PII-300 has more as enough power for your workstations.
Samba can currently do the most things what an NT server can do.
See http://www.samba.org/ for more infos.

Also you can put the printserver onto your fileserver and then
use this computer as firewall and attach the modem there. Also
install squid (a webproxy/cache) on the firewall, this speeds
up access to web pages. Now all of your nt boxes have access
to the internet (But read a good book about internet security
first e.g. Building Internet Firewalls O'Reilly).

You can have a look at my private homepage, there are some
starting points for firewalling with linux.

If you haven't much expiriences with Unix then you should test
the whole things first a seperate machine untill all works
as expected.

Uli

PS : What is the accounting computer for ? Probably you can put
this functionality also on the main server. How about a
network wide fax solution ? have a look at HylaFAX
     http://www.hylafax.org + WHFC http://www.transcom.de/whfc

Date: Tue, 09 Mar 1999 15:55:50 +0800

Hi, I found in kernel net/ipv4/icmp.c there is a function
icmp_timestamp(), which handles the incoming timestamp requests, but I
cannot find the function that deal with the replys(at IP or TCP layer).
Would you pleas help me?
Thanks a lot!
