Try using:
# Set default forwarding policy
ipfwadm -F -p deny
# Set exceptions to the above forwarding policy
ipfwadm -F -a m -S 192.168.100.0/24 -D 0.0.0.0/0
This assumes your network is 192.168.100, your IP addresses on the NT
machines seem to be in another network. You should have all the machines in
your home network using the same network number. Your NT machines should
use the IP address of your Linux box (probably that of eth0, use ifconfig to
check) as the gateway address.

Where are you trying to test from? The portfw will only work if the
connection comes from outside.

Thank you all.
It 's working now.
The problem was in the hosts.deny file.
This file was set to deny all.

You probably want to use IP masquerading on your Linux router. Read the
IP masquerading HOWTO for more info on how to set it up.
You can't just do a simple routing setup because your LAN addresses are
in the
private network range, and cannot be used on the internet. Even if you
could,
though, your ISP probably will only route incoming packets to your Linux
box and
won't know where to find the other machines on your LAN. So any
connection to the
internet from any other machine on your LAN won't receive any data in
return at all.
IP masquerading fixes this by changing all outgoing packets from your
LAN machines to
look as if they come from your Linux router. This way, hosts on the
internet think they
are replying to your Linux box but when the packets reach the Linux box,
they are
"de-masqueraded" and routed back to your LAN machines.

Subject: setiathome not communicating with server
Date: Fri, 30 Apr 1999 21:23:38 GMT
Some newbie help requested-
I've installed the setiathome client on Redhat 5.1. I'm behind a corporate
firewall but can use a browser (netscape) with no proxy settings. setiathome
runs, asks for my info, and then sits there. I know it connected to the server
because they have a record of my email address in their stats area but it
reports no data has been sent. The client just sits there, never downloading
the datafile from the server and eventually says it received an invalid end of
file (paraphrased) error from the server and then restarts.
Any suggestions?

Hi
Thank for taking the time to read this, maybe you can help
My problem is seeing the rest of the network world. I can ping my own
address but can't ping the router address or beyond. There are no error
message printed to screen. so It probably is working to how I
configured it but I don't know how I've configured it incorrectly.
I've include most of files and outputs listed at back of book. I've
tried to follow the Linux NET-3-HOWTO info when the original setup
didn't work.
Things that are a little different than out of the box.
1 - I'm using a matrox millenium g200 card and decided to try XiG
xserver. It works and the default window flavor seems to be KDE. Yast
appears to work but changes did seem to stick on reboot, ooorrrrr, I
didn't do something to get changes to 'stay'.
2 - so i started using command line configuration commands such as
ifconfig and route -add.
still no success.
so basically my network info for my workstation is as follows
host A.B.C.H
ISP router A.B.C.1
mask 255.255.255.0
domain S.W.home.com
eth0 card is 3com 905 10/100 # one of my concerns is that the card is
set correctly for 10Mb use
This machine is a amd k2-6 333 cpu with a lilo boot that has a win 95
option. I'm sending email from the win95 ios and network connectivity
works.
So either I've set some switch on that shouldn't be. I noticed in
.config that many things are activated that I have even addressed, maybe
there is a conflict.
My goal for this machine is to use as a workstation. If this helps.
Please tell me what else you need to trouble shoot the problem.

Greetings -
This should be pretty simple - but maybe I'm obtuse ... I loaded up SuSE
6.0, but I can't seem to configure the NIC, which is an SMC EtherEZ card. I
know the hardware is fine - it works under NT 4.0, RedHat 5.2, and Solaris 7
on the same machine. The card is listed as supported on the SuSE web site,
but when I look at the /lib/modules/2.0.36/net directory, it only has
drivers for three SMC cards, when there are supposedly 18 supported SMC
cards. Some searching has yet to reveal the solution - am I having brain
disconnect here? Shouldn't this be relatively straightforward?

I too have problems with ip-masqing being forwarded to
machines on the internel network from the ppp interface. What has
worked since RedHat 4.2 and worked when I upgraded or rather
installed RedHat 5.2 from scratch, somehow all of a sudden stopped
working. I have done nothing but install RedHat patches to the
system really besides various other program sources I have
installed. Internal network still works perfectly, just that
nothing gets returned from the PPP interface to to the machines on
the network. The server has no problems whatsoever.
I found references to this problem in the Linux Kernel Archives
at
http://www.linuxhq.com/lnxlists/linux-kernel/
section: Feb 1999 - week 4
subject: "ppp mru/mtu and ip masquerading".
Seems that your PPP and internal ethernet mtu have to be set to
the same thing (ie. mtu 1500). I have tested it, it works, however
1500 is not very efficient for PPP. But without changing anything
on the system at all except dialing in with mtu 1500 setting with
the dialer, ip-masqing works again.
Haven't seen anything on this recently, would think a problem of
this type would be flooding the newsgroup here. Not sure they have
it fixed or not as it is still present on my system even after
upgrading to 2.2.6 and 2.2.7 kernels. If anybody else has some
insight
to this problem, any help would be appreciated, would like to get my
ppp
back up to normal speed.
Good Luck...

The 8500 is postscript level 3. I can print to one with no problem. My problem
is printing to more than one laserwriter at a time from my mac through the
linux box. What do you use for papd.conf?

The two statements are contradictory. The evidence for "logs on flawlessly" is
precisely that certain things happen. To say that nothing happens is to say that
it did not log on flawlessly.
Also, I feel sick. Could you please tell me how I can get well?
