You need to configure the kernel for port-forwarding (may be a module)
and to use ipmasqadm to tell your box what you want to be forwarded.

Command line is (from memory):
ipmasqadm portfw -a -P tcp -L <your_external_IP> 80 -R
<your_internal_www_IP> 80

Hope this helps.

My guess is that Samba is not doing name mangling properly... to see
if this is the case, how do other long file names get mapped and
displayed on that same share?

In smb.conf's manpage, there's a whole section on name mangling and
the default settings are explained. Also, you might try having a look
at the various samba-related mailing-lists at http://samba.anu.edu.au

Hope this helps.

Mr. Hong -
  Yes, I do have the Intel EtherExpress pro 10 working in RH6.0.
Please excuse me if any of these questions are obvious or redundent.

Have you disabled Plug & Pray on the card?

Did you make note of the IRQ and IO Port that you have it set to?

Did you check for conflicts with other cards?

Any helpful messages in /var/log/messages?

This is what my /etc/conf.modules looks like:

alias scsi_hostadapter ncr53c8xx
alias eth0 eepro
options eepro irq=11 io=0x230
alias parport_lowlevel parport_pc
alias sound sb
pre-install sound insmod sound dmabuf=1
alias midi opl3
options opl3 io=0x388
options sb io=0x220 irq=5 dma=1

I hope that helps.

Peter Grace [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Subject: Is 3Com's 3c905B NIC compatible with Linux?
Date: Sun, 25 Jul 1999 18:47:29 +0800

I've got 3com's 3c905B NIC. This card is connected to my alcatel ADSL modem.
This modem has got 3 inputs. 1st one for 'ATM-25' (my ATM card connects
here), 2nd one for '10 Base-T' (my 3c905B connects here) and third one is
for the rj-11 line (phone line).

Is there any driver that I can use to enable it to work in Linux? I've tried
the 3c509 and the 3c59x modules (i am using redhat 6.0) but but gave me an
error message saying that it was unable to load the module.

Has anybody got a similar configuration that worked for them? Pls get back
asap. Thanks.

The manpage is wrong.

>Really?  I thought processes waiting on IO were not in the run queue;
>only processes that were "ready to run".

That should be correct.

The loadavg shows the number of "active" tasks. Active does not only
mean "running", but also "doing critical I/O".

kernel/sched.c:

static unsigned long count_active_tasks(void)
{
        struct task_struct *p;
        unsigned long nr = 0;

        read_lock(&tasklist_lock);
        for_each_task(p) {
                if ((p->state == TASK_RUNNING ||
                     p->state == TASK_UNINTERRUPTIBLE ||
                     p->state == TASK_SWAPPING))
                        nr += FIXED_1;
        }
        read_unlock(&tasklist_lock);
        return nr;
}

All tasks are counted that are either TASK_RUNNING,
TASK_UNINTERRUPTIBLE or TASK_SWAPPING.

Subject: autofs + don't want symbolic links
Date: Sun, 25 Jul 1999 12:54:28 +0200

Hello,

I'm trying to set up autofs, and partly it's working fine. On my client
system I get my home directory mounted (through NFS). This works.

bash-2.03$ cd /home
bash-2.03$ ls -l
total 2
drwxr-xr-x  46 stefan   stefan       2048 Jul 25 12:36 stefan

bash-2.03$ cd stefan
bash-2.03$ df .
Filesystem 1k-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on
alpha:/export/home/stefan
                     8579028   5034757   3099395  62% /home/stefan

Now on my server I'd also like the home directories to be mounted using
NFS. Right now autofs is putting down symbolic links:

[stefan@cgmd77035 /home]$ ls -l
total 0
lrwxrwxrwx   1 root     root           16 Jul 25 12:32 stefan ->
/data/home/stefan

I'm also running a webserver on my "server". If I want my homepage to be
serverd up by apache I have to
turn on "follow symbolic links" which I don't want to do. (This is a
redhat system, document root is in
/home/httpd, personal homepages are in ~/.html/).

How can I setup the autofs on my server so it will NFS mount the home
directories (eventhough they're on
the same system)??

I don't know if these are the right groups to post in for this question,
if there are better places to ask
this question please let me know. Thanks!!!

Stefan van der Eijk

bash-2.03$ ypcat auto.master

bash-2.03$ ypcat auto.home

alpha:/data/home/ftp
alpha:/data/home/samba
alpha:/data/home/httpd

(cgmd77035 and alpha are the same machine: cgmd77035 is the cablemodem
interface, alpha is the local interface.
The nfsd is running, and the home-dir's are exported).

Subject: LinkSys Ether PCI Lan Card II - cablemodem - RedHat5.2 - Howto - Help
Date: Sun, 25 Jul 1999 11:57:09 GMT

I got my @Home Cable modem connection today. The @Home data technician made
it working from my Win95 PC (Intel P II 266, 64). Unfortunately
he didn't install a LAN Card instead he used the one already existed on the
system. It is a LinkSys Ether PCI Lan Card II (10BT). It is working well
with Win95. But I do have a 2nd partition on the same PC which has RedHat
5.2 Linux installed. I wanted to connect using Linux also (just for fun and
to get a hang of Linux-Networking)

Now after reading all the posted messages and Cablemodem support pages, I
still do not get this thing working.

1) Linux doesn't recognize my PCI Lan Card.
I have isapnp already running in my PC, but earlier version 1.1 or 1.2. I
could n't find an new rpm version. The one I down loaded was not recognized
by rpm. So if some one do have a new rpm version please let me know where I
can download it?.

2) Do I need to update the above isapnp version, Does the isapnp work for
PCI Cards? Is there a PCIpnp version there?

3) From the RH Linux Installation Guide (p-295) the network driver for my
card is tulip.o, is there a chance I need a newer version of this or some
other driver.

4) Using netcfg I configured eth0 with tulip and also with ne2k-pci with
out any success.

5) Finally I am new to Linux, so please give me a detailed answer if
possible. How I can make sure my eth0 port is enabled. (I used to check pppd
with ps pppd, is this work for eth0 as well?)

Any help is appreciated.

I don't have a solution for you, but I don't think it is the disk
space. I have recieved that message as well while playing around with
different things. I am using a P200 40M ram and an 8.4GB harddrive with
4.7GB available. The only way to recover that I have found is a hard
reboot.

My current chat setup under netcfg looks like this:
EXPECT    SEND

Seems to me the chat script doesn't even go that far. Does it have
anything to do with my ISP doesn't display a "CONNECT" message? I try to
edit the chat-ppp0 file by removing the line 'CONNECT' '' but doesn't help
either. Anyone have an idea about what went wrong?

After I give up on netcfg, I try to use kppp. My kppp can't even get the
modem to dial. I get two messages from kppp dialog box after I press the
connect bottom. It first shows "Modem Ready", then it shows "Sorry, the
modem doesn't respond."
chmod +s /usr/sbin/kppp is already done. And I use the exact same port as
I use in netcfg. I assume the modem is Hayes compatible and didn't change
any default modem command on kppp. Or I need to do something else?

Linux and the windows computer talk fine via samba
Linux runs wonderfully with the cable modem.

When I type ipchains --version I get 1.3.8
When I try to enter other Ipchains commands
I get an error telling me "Ipchains : incompatible with Kernel"

I really really really want to get this working. I have read both the
ipchains and firewalling howto's.

Please offer some suggestions.
