Hmmmm, This may or may not help but try swapping out one of the net

However, I can telnet from host1.domain2.net.

That's nice.
Now I know how to do this on a RH box.
Is there actually a howto wich tells you how to do this.
If not someone should write one.

Greetings,
I have recently recompiled my kernel to support this feature. I have read
what seems like every HOW-TO on the face of the earth and I cant get this to
work. Samba works great. I have Caldera with a 2.0.35 kernel and a Win95 box.
Both have Kingston KNE40 cards. The ethernet part works fine. PPP on the
Linux box works fine. But when I boot the Linux box, I see the message: IPV4
Forwarding: disabled. And if I do /proc/net/ip_forward I get Permission
denied. As 'root' no less.
Now I know it's compiled into the kernel. Since the HOW-TO's don't
specifically mention Caldera I have to sort of improvise to find the
equivalent files. But thats not a problem.
If somebody could steer me in the right direction, I would appreciate it.

Hi there,
I am sure this has come up several times, but most of the questions I have
seen have been from people who have a clue. I don't!!
The rest of my network is 9x based, and Linux is new for me, everything I
have done so far is self taught.
I would like to know if there is some docs somewhere on how to get started
hooking to the net, I have been playing with the network settings, trying to
see the net, but to no avail.
This is a direct connection, so I thought DHCP would work as it did with the
9x machines, but this is not the case, so if anyone has a canned response
for step by step settings that would be kewl, or even a page to go to.
Since this is a duel booter, I tried to apply the settings from winipcfg,
but they do not work. Perhaps I am putting the info in the wrong place?
I have been trying for quite some time to find info about this on the net,
but have not found anything so any help would be appreciated..
Please reply to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Thanx so much,
Robert

what OS that PC is running don't matter, as far as it is TCPIP.
In office, I use it to connect to win95, but at home, I only use it alone,
however,
occasionally, I will connect to another PC using BNC cable.
Also, pls note that I know TCPIP well and have programmed with both the BSD

WIN socket on linux and winsock on win95 and talked to each other (of
course using

I'm trying to explore the apache web server on single PC, so I have to
create a loop-back interface, or connected to myself. In office, with have
many PC, I have succesfuuly setup up and running the thing (Perl/CGI) and I
took back the
stuff to test in home.
& I have typed ifconfig, netstat etc, all give positive response, except
zero packet
received and send on TCP & UDP stream.

10 Mbps == 10 Mbps.
However, to avoid problems, _NEVER_ save money on connectors (the big
money saver with coax is the cable, RG 58). Use brand BNC plugs such as
AMP or Radial. When soldered properly soldered plugs are more reliable
then crimp connectors.

not one packet was received, not on eth0 nor loopback.
try "ping localhost" if this doesn't respond, guess you'll have to

Nope no need.
Sam is the database win NT uses
read the info on SAMBA and configure this on your linux box to your needs.
further, on the win-boxes, install tcp/ip as a protocol with SAMBA as
server.
your linux-box will now act as a domain server for the win-boxes.
Samba can work on dns, dhcp and even wins.
communications shouldn't be a problem, configuration is a bit tuffer but can
be done with only the man-pages as resource.
if this doesn't help you and since you run Red Hat. search the google.
this can be done from redhat.com or directly from google.com
have fun reading :-)

I have an account from an ISP which is behind a firewall. In windows
I can setup proxy in all applications such as MIRC, ICQ, Netscape, ..., but
in linux I can only access our local ISP and not any other address.
In linux I can only use netscape because it has a part that I can set the
proxy in edit--> preferences part. In windows I have setup a programm named
Winsock 2.2 , so I don't need to set proxy in any application and all the
applications I run in windows use the proxy setting in the configuration file
of winsock. here is the configuration in winsock file:
DIRECT 195.96.147.0 255.255.255.0
SOCKD5 @=proxy.safineh.net 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0
And when I want I set it manually like this:
proxy.safineh.net : 8080
How can I use these proxy setting in linux?

Could someone give a lineout of the possibilities to use Linux as a
fileserver for Win95 workstations.
Currently, I am running a Windows NT server (sorry), with about 20
workstations attached to it. The workstations are all running one pretty
big database application. Furthermore, there are 3 laptops, which are
docked one time a day, to update the database. Performance and
reliability of the NT server is pretty bad.
I'd be very grateful for any suggestions to improve performance, using
Linux as the server's OS...

secrets file or send 'username * password *'.

Just do not start /usr/sbin/inetd, easy.
