How and where do I set the Proxy settings in the enviroment. I am
trying to run SETI@HOME and it says if I have a setting in the
enviroment HTTP_PROXY= it will connect via the proxy. I have no idea
where to make this setting.
Any ideas.

This DOES NOT address Bruce's Q. Are you seriously going to
defend Linus's skewed response to Bruce by showing that MSVC++
actually has one sole isolated bug some mag reported on (ok that
in C mode the compiler did not happen to have too)?
OTOH, since we're just jesting: Do recall that MS products do not have bugs.

Yeah, I like that -- don't use C++ because templates aren't as 'good' as
Lisp style macros so use C instead.

how about using linux as your router and run ipportfw on port 80 to map
through to a port on the internal web server.
Then set the dns to point www.yourwebserver.com to your.routers.ip.address
Just a thought....
Then you could sell your router!

I'm assuming that you want to have like www.domain.com ,
www.anotherdomain.com, etc..... all running off the same ip...
For that you'd need to do virtualhosting...I use apache and it works really
well.... Go to www.apache.org and take a look at their page about
VirtualHosting. Once you look at that page and still don't know how to do
it , then email me at [EMAIL PROTECTED] and i'll give you some help.

The only thing I remember about the hosts file is that it contains the ip
addresses of all the hosts that can access your service.
I have few hosts so my hosts file is something like:
1.2.3.1
1.2.3.2
etc.....
If you have too much hosts to list them all you can _try_ to put your net
address in the file:
1.2.3.0
or
1.2.3.
I cannot test this at the moment.

Why would you wnat to restart linux, you only need to do this sort of
thing if you are running a braindead winNT box, it is Much better to
restart just the process:

Subject: IP Alias Timeout???
Date: Tue, 29 Jun 1999 13:56:20 -0700
Hello,
I just installed Redhat 6.0/WinNT dualboot and I have a question about
my NIC configuration: the IP aliasing seems to timeout after a
while under RedHat. I'm using a Linksys Etherfast (with the tulip
driver) and the aliases work fine under NT. However, after about 40
minutes, none of the aliases are pingable under redhat. the primary
interface stays functional throughout but the aliases all seem to
timeout. A reboot or poweroff doesn't change this. The only thing
that seems to help is to remove all the aliases and the primary
interface and then reenter the primary and aliases. It then works
again for about 40 minutes, after which time the aliases time out
once again (but the primary interface continues to work). I've tried using
both ifconfig and the networking button of the control-panel to
configure this in vain. So I figured I'd put this up to the real Linux
gurus out
there :) Please help!!!
Thanks in advance,
Rick.

The 3Com 3c509b is autodetected by linux, you do not need to give it irq
and io addresses.
What usually helps is to use one of the dos programs on the floppy with
drivers to take the card aut of plug and play mode.
The program (forgot the name isapnp.exe???) can also be downloaded from
t3com btw.
This fixed my initial problems with the 3c509b.
Succes,
Herman

Tx Ted - (wow - that was fast!)
i don't actually know if the card is in pnp mode or not -
i don't have the dos/win cfg/setup program.
the setup program i dl'd from cesdis, doesn't indicate
the pnp status.
there are no conflicts - bare bones pc -
I've already recompiled the kernel with correct support.
any other ideas? :-)

Subject: diald compile failure
I finally got ip-masquerading to work with my modem dialup connection.
Then I got cracking on the diald deamon. Didn't even get past the "make
depend". I got a crapload of warnings about redefinitions in the
/usr/src/include/in.h in just about all of the .c files. The make doesn't
work either...
What gives? Is there some library inconsistense, as usual, or
something else...? Neither the README or the faq gives much clue(to me at
least ;).
Is there some binarys elsewhere??
Any help is very much appreciated!
