Trying to ftp localhost I get the following error:

ftp: connect: No buffer space available

Looking in syslog:

Jul 6 09:37:51 laptop kernel: neighbour table overflow
Jul 6 09:38:35 laptop last message repeated 4 times

What is the neighbour table? Im using the new ip utilities (instead of
ifconfig) and kernel 2.2.10.

Ive never seen anything like this before... does anyone know what it
means?

Thanks for any help!!

Hi

Is there a way to print on a win-only (BROTHER HL-820) printer from
Linux?
The printer is attached to a WIN95 PC and the linux box already uses
samba for accessing shared directories.

Is it possible ?

Any hints welcome.

All decent distributions nowadays default to using shadow passwords.
If your do have a file /etc/shadow, you're using it.

This is a compile-time option. Get the sources and recompile the beroftpd
package with support for shadow passwords enabled. There is no way to
do this without recompiling, if your current incarnation doesn't support
it.

Subject: multiple nfs servers
Date: 6 Jul 1999 12:33:26 +0200

Hello,

I have problems running multiple nfs servers on one host.

How do I set up two different userspace nfs daemons on linux?

NFS Server 1: exports the local filesystems as usual.

NFS Server 2: exports a homebrewn userlevel filesystem.
(In this case a file system interface for a video
subsystem, which I patched together with the nfsd.)

I tried to set the second nfs server to a different port (3049 instead of
2049) with --port. This works for the rpc.nfsd.

I can give the port as a parameter to the mount command.

As long as there is only one rpc.nfsd running, this works.
(When mounting, I do not even need to give the port number.)

The problem:

I need a second rpc.mountd. If I try the same changed port number (3049),
it does not work.

  nfsd[1653] 07/05/99 17:40 Could not bind name to socket 0.0.0.0:3049: \
Address already in use errno: 98
  nfsd[1653] 07/05/99 17:40 could not make a udp socket

According to RFC 1094 the port number for rpc.mountd is something different.
In the source code, rpc.mountd used the port 0 to connect to the portmapper
(that means the portmapper selects the port number.

How do I do this?

Sorry, they failed with my setup. There are just too many
configuration differences between the examples and my setup for them
to be very useful. I've only got a modem on my Windows box linked to
the outside world and don't need a second ethernet card in my Linux
box.

Also, I don't intend this particular Linux box to see the outside
world and I've no intention of letting any of the outside world see
any of my network. The only way I want to access the net is via my
Windows modem. I don't have any need for an IP domain name. I would
assume that in this case DNS issues would be only be relevant when I
wanted to use Windows to access the net and that bit worked fine until
I changed the Windows Logon validation to what the guides suggested.

My portmap is runing everytime

[root@kft /root]# ps aux | grep portmap

#
# One can use the word "host" instead of a netmask of

sunos_kludge: no

# The following, when uncommented, will give you shadow like passwords.

# Note that it will not work if you have slave NIS servers in your

*                            : shadow.byname    : port       : yes

# If you comment out the next rule, ypserv and rpc.ypxfrd will
# look for YP_SECURE and YP_AUTHDES in the maps. This will make
# the security check a little bit slower, but you only have to
# change the keys on the master server, not the configuration files
# on each NIS server.
# If you have maps with YP_SECURE or YP_AUTHDES, you should create
# a rule for them above, that's much faster.

I think that I did all ok. I start ypserv after I make it.

I just set a friend up with with the same card on a network this
weekend. it uses the via-rhine driver. Set him up using RedHat6. With
both 5 and 6, the via-rhine is not listed in any of the graphical
utilities, but a the compiled object file that you need is located in
/lib/modules/2.x/net/via-rhine.o

You do not have to pass in any parameters to get this driver working.

Hope this helps, Doug

I am trying to get 2 NICS to work together at the same time - kernel 2.0.36.

eth0: 203.38.101.229/30 (registered ip)
eth1: 192,168.0.30/24 (private)

I have a network on the private lan with 192.168.0.x addresses and
I can't ping the 192.168.0.30 NIC. The other 192.168.0 PCs can
ping each other but I get nothing to/from the 192.168.0.30 in the linux
host.

>From the linux host I can ping 192.168.0.30 (the NIC inside the linux host)
but no other 192.168.0.0 hosts.

I think I have configured eth1 wrong with ifconfig but I'm not sure. A host
on the eth0 network (203.38.101.230) can ping 192.168.0.30 (eth1).

Here is how I configure the 2 NICs - /etc/init.d/network (debian 2.1)

ifconfig lo 127.0.0.1
route add -net 127.0.0.0
IPADDR=203.38.101.229

ifconfig eth1 ${IPADDR} netmask ${NETMASK} broadcast ${BROADCAST}

Not the 530TX, it uses the VIA RHINE. I know, I have one, and the tulip
driver does NOT work. Good card for not much money, by the way.

There is no such thing... Most of the time
people appear to mean a TA which supports
a Hayes command style interface. It still
isn't a "modem" though.

Post the *outputs* of route -nv and ifconfig eth0

Actually, setting all the clients to exactly the MTU the ppp connection
uses should also help and give slightly better performance.
ifconfig on the masq server while connected should give you the MTU the
provider uses.
For example, my provider seems to use an MTU of 1500 so setting the MTU
size to 296 would give unnecessary packet fragmentation.

There is a fix for the MTU defragmentation mechanism in the linux kernel
that is buggy. Look for it on the IP masquerading sites.
