I have SuSE 6.1 and a PCI modem, I have a similar problem, I can get the
KPPP find the modem on /dev/cua0 but it hangs when it tries to set the
volume. I have read somewhere if the PCI modem uses shared memory (high
memory settings ) it will not work under linux.

I also have the same situation, both with the RX/TX lines and with tech
support. I must say, I was VERY disappointed with the Red Hat Tech
Support... it has been absolutely terrible and of the 5 support incidents I
submitted, they only supported 1 (which I'd already solved by scanning this
newsgroup... btw, thanks to everyone on the newsgroup for maintaining such a
resource and giving back to the community... if it wasn't for this, I might
have abandoned Linux altogether long ago).

Hey pg,
just got your post to my original message.. I now have a new problem
(oh goodie).. My samba server can print to bother networked printers
using "lpr".. Windows machines can also print to it, however, my linux
boxes (RH 6.0) cannot print to either one...
thanks for your help :-)

I realize I probably touched upon a million isues in this question but
thanks for stopping and helping me with it. The hack worked and now
there's no probs with SAMBA and I even hope that IP Masq-ing is on its
way as well. I didn't realize that Red Hat 5.2 and 6.0 actually come
with IPMasq-ing compiled in already... saved me much time and effort.
The one thing I'm still not sure of is the ipchains vs ipfwadm vs
ipfwadm-wrapper that I have. I went ahead and used ipchains since I am
using the 2.2 kernel so just gotta check to see if it works.
Thanks again for your assistance. It's nice to have some nice people
out there that are willing to help us beginners. HOW-TOs are terrific
but sometimes there are those little questions that never seem to get

this is probably a dumb question, but I just got a Linksys LNE100TX NIC

Does any one know which drivers/modules I should be using?
specs:
Linksys LNE100TX
LC82c115

32bit PCI, busmaster, 3.5W, 2.5 oz
Thanks for any help/suggestions.

I want to know how to build several network server which has many
ip addresses, and they only have one hostname by Linux. e.g
Name: microsoft.com
Addresses: 207.46.130.149, 207.46.130.150, 207.46.131.13, 207.46.131.15
207.46.131.137, 207.46.130.14
Aliases: www.microsoft.com
I don't know above question which is called fault-tolerance or
cluster backup system ? Please set right me.
I mean I want a fixed Web Server(aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd).
If aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd shutdown or network interrupt, then the other web server
(aaa.bbb.ccc.eee) can be a backup web server to keep up web site alive.
And the ip address aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd & aaa.bbb.ccc.eee map to the same hostname
such as www.xxx.xxx.xxx. Thanks. Best regards.

I'm using NT4.0 as my proxy server, with a Linux box connected by
ethernet. Auto-dial and http work great for Netscape on the Linux box,
as Netscape has a proxy-settings page. FTP, Telnet, and all other
network services on the Linux box are unable top resolve addresses or
even ping off-server.
What are the names of the configuration files where I can set
HTTP_PROXY, FTP_PROXY, etc... on the Linux box?
thanks

Ok. Does anyone kow of a good mail service that supports pop3?
Hotmail is web based and the www.cnn.com mail service will do pop3 for a
fee. Because I am not employed right now I am looking for a free email
account for Bob my boyfriend that uses pop3.

Well folks, it looks like I won't be being my usual helpful self
here in comp.os.linux.* anymore - or at least not from this address.
As my boss put it in a lengthy memo to me this morning:
When I review your time sheets I find it distressing to see you
spending hours of time a day with "Mail and News"...
I'm also not allowed to use my Linux laptop for work any more.
So, in the interest of spending more time doing the things that he
wants me to do (i.e. generating money), I'm going to have to stop
doing the things I like to do (i.e. being helpful to Linux folks on
Usenet and thus generating goodwill for the company). I hope
everyone won't take this the wrong way, and will continue to think
of DigitalFM as a place where helpful people work. Maybe some
folks who'd like to do business with helpful people will even
remember us when the time comes. :)
But for now, I'm dropping off Usenet from this address, and will
be posting from my personal (home) address instead.

Guys,
Don't know if this works, but I do know that some NAT/proxy machines
require a static arp be sent out on the wire...if you have mgmt of the
router, see if it has a statement in the arp table for the "virtual" you
are trying to use.
Many routers arp timeout is set to an exorbatant amount of time (three
hours)...Have your ISP check the router and see if there is an entry in
the arp table on the router.
Hope this helps...
