Anyone out there successful with the 3Com 574B PCMCIA? Haven't been
able to come up with many hits on any search engines, and only one on
DejaNews.

I'm running a Debian 2.1 system, and my syslog tells me the #com
Megahertz 574b is not a supported card. Yet, it seems the How-tos
list it as a supported card.

Would love to hear from anyone who may have some success to report, or
maybe an updated module . . .

If your mail server is simply "mail", make sure your domain is specified in
/etc/resolv.conf

Here's what mine looks like:

        search wodhvn1.mi.home.com
        nameserver 127.0.0.1
        nameserver 24.2.252.33

My Linux is Redhat linux 6.0,after installing linux, I want to add a
Intel pro 100B NIC. But I don't know how to do that. I had used the
command "netconf", but it need me to input the I/O and IRQ. The Intel
pro 100b NIC is a PCI NIC. What shall I do?

Thanks in advance!

Hey guys...
I'm thinking of setting up a wireless LAN in my house, and
wondering what equipment I'll need. Here's what I _think_ I want, but
I'm not sure if I'm understanding what I read correctly...

I _think_ I need a couple of access points to cover as much area
I need, and as many pcmcia wireless lan cards as I have PC's... In reading
the info on www.waveaccess.com, I think it implies not all access points
support "roaming"... Also, I read somewhere that 11 Mpbs wireless LAN
cards are coming, when where how soon before supported by Linux etc?

The access points are just bridges from the ethernet to the
radio lan right?

Well, basically, I'm clueless about all this, and, I'd like
as much info on the subject as possible...

Thanks in advance...

I recently did the same thing. I used mgetty 1.14 (I think, whatever came
with RH6.0) and pppd 2.3.7. The following site walks you thru it.
http://members.bellatlantic.net/~mrdennis/mgetty.html

I can dial in from any win 9x pc and check my mail, surf, telnet...the whole
shebang!!

Good luck!

The war was simply put, two wars, A pacific/asian and an Atlantic/European war.
After all the USSR didn't declare war on japan until July 1945 :) just in
time to nick the Kurile Islands.

I'm a newbie to Linux. My host PC on the network is using Windows 98 SE
which connects to a DSL modem. All clients, includes one RH 5.2 Linux, share
the DSL Internet connection. On Windows based clients, there's no settings
except using DHCP in TCP/IP to the network card. However, I assigned an IP,
gateway, DNS (given by ISP), and use DHCP to the network setting of eth0
ethernet card. I change the PPP (protocol?) to ethernet in the network
setting also. Then it works. I think, not sure, the configuration should
focus on the network settings to Ethernet card, protocols, and others. All
my networking experiences were from Windows. I just applied these to the
configuration of Linux, since DSL uses Ethernet connection.

If your modem is an external device, then there is nothing to configure in
order to make it work. DSL devices work like a bridge.

If you have internal device, then it could be complicated procedure.
Unfortunately don't have any experience with internal DSL devices.

Good luck!

kevin have you solved this - I have the same issue
2 T1's from different carriers.

I have 2 nic's in my linux box and it will only reply to one of the ports.
I think it has something to do with
the fact that the gateway sends traffic out via the first entry my isp
doesn't allow this traffic and filters it.

I think.

To clear up your confusion; he seems to have had a question concerning the
operation of Linux rather than a hardware problem. The Linux newsgroups
were a good choice. However, I did not see the need for the post to a
networking category.

It sounds like you _must_ be an expert on _every_ operating system and never
have the need to ask another person a question. I'm sure you tell your

Not so simple. Much of South-East Asia was in the hands of the British and Dutch.
The Japanese conferred with the Germans prior to the war and decided that a
simultaneous attack on the European holdings was a good gamble for them since
the British navy would be concentrated nearer to home. The two theatres of war
were not independent.

hi, all:
I installed Redhat 6.0 on my compaq 7770 ladtop, which has a 3Com
589 NIC, when I installed, the PCMCIA card can not function, thereby, i
install a new PCMCIA patch file pcmcia-cs-3.0.12, then the card works
but it can not get a DHCP address when boot. When i log in the system
and use netcfg to start it manually, it successes. I have set the
interface to get the IP address when boot, but it is deactived when
boot. The message from boot is "delay eth0 initialization failed"

How can I do to enable the DHCP, any ideas?
Another question is that can a Linux machine get a WINS name in a NT
network?
