Hi Raymond,
my chat script looks ok. It's working with the ppp-up script as desired.
Only
diald has problems. Here is my chat script:

It's written for Zyxel 2864ID ISDN Terminaladapter. And here's a part of my
diald.conf:
...original diald.conf...snip...

pppd-options user "...my user name at the ISP(German T-Online)..."
connect "/usr/sbin/chat -f /etc/ppp/ppp.chat.to"

Any Ideas what's going wrong?

Subject: RAS ppp dialup response?
Date: Wed, 18 Aug 1999 12:00:30 GMT
My company recently switched to Microsoft RAS which supposedly supports
ppp access. However, when I dial up the number using minicom, I get no
"garbage" on the screen that I normally expect from a ppp server.
Starting up pppd by hand, pppd does not get very far:
Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/cua0
LCP: timeout sending Config-Requests
Connection terminated.
It looks like there is no ppp server on the other end, and doesn't even
get to the server negotiation phase. Connecting via Win95 works,
though.
Thanks for any pointers.

Subject: Gateway Configuration
Date: Wed, 18 Aug 1999 12:08:48 GMT
Hello out there,
i want to install a linux machine with two ethernet cards as a router
in a network. At the moment it is configured as a bridge.
I have read the HOWTOs and man pages but I cant make it work.
Here is my problem:
external internal
53.xxx.xxx.xxx network ----- bridge ----- (some 53.xxx.yyy.zzz machines)
I have two ip addresses for my bridge/gateway (one interal and one
external). On our machines (53.xxx.yyy.zzz) the default router is the
new gateway, on the new gateway the default router is the external
default router.
If I send a ping from an interal to an external machine I can see
the package going from my internal machine to the new gateway, from
the new gateway to the external machine (over the external default
router) and coming back from the pinged machine to my source machine.
But it is not forwarded by the new gateway to our internal network.
One of the features is that there is no access to the routing table of
the external router.
Is there a solution for that problem ??
Thanks.
Best Regards

Try this :
Move to /usr/src/linux/drivers/net
Edit Space.c in the following :
-search for static struct device eth1_dev
-replace ",ETH_NOPROBE_ADDR...," with ",0,"
(for more nic repeat it with eth2,...)

but you will need to enable packet forwarding and more specifically
ftp masqing try this
echo "1" > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward

Subject: IP Masquerading Question
Date: Wed, 18 Aug 1999 13:41:07 GMT
I am using a Linux box (kernel 2.0.34). Currently running IP
masquerading with some firewall filters.
My question, is it possible to setup the box to monitor multiple
external IP addresses and if traffic is destined for a specific one to
forward the traffic to a specific internal ip address? For instance,
if I wanted to hide my email server behind the "firewall", could the
Linux box forward SMTP (port 25) and POP3 (port 110) to a specific
internal machine, if requested at a specific external address?
If I do not make sense, please let me know.
Thanks,

Wolfgang,
Im afraid there is no solution to your problem as it is written.
You must have different sub nets on both sides of a router. It does
work if you have different sub nets on both sides like this:
53.xxx.yyy.zz - router - 53.aaa.bbb.ccc
with xxx<>aaa and so on.
Another way is doing sub netting by your self via a restricted sub net
mask. The whole net 53.0.0.0 netmask 255.0.0.0 is divided:
53.0.0.0 - router - 53.128.0.0
netmask netmask
255.128.0.0 255.128.0.0
The classic approach for a home network is masquerading to get
different sub nets on the sides:
53.0.0.0 -router- 10.0.0.0 (reseved IP)
nm 255.0.0.0 nm 255.0.0.0

Hi all!
First, sorry for my broken english then, sorry to be working on NT and
anyway thank you for you help!
** What am I working on?
I am working on a NT driver that let a windows workstation boot off an
'image', located on a server. The aim is to propose a kind of NT diskless
terminal. This driver behaves like a disk driver for the OS and simulate a C
drive, using the image as source.
Once the image is created with a proprietary software, one can that way
'network boot' his station which will work just as if there was a local
drive.
This already works fine from a NT server if the image is located in a folder
that have the 'NullSessionShare' property. It means no access control will
be done on this folder.
--
** What is the problem?
I would like to do the same thing on any server and particularly with Linux
servers.
More precisely, I would like to configure a folder on a Linux server where I
could store my NT images, read them from any client with a simple
"fopen(UNC_filename);" and be disturbed with no security check.
I think I HAVE to do this because I know no way to authenticate myself on a
Linux server from an NT kernel mode driver...
To communicate with the Linux server, I already installed Samba but I didn't
find anything yet: I always get a logon window while trying to connect from
an NT workstation session having no known user account.
--
Well, if anyone's got an idea! Do not hesitate to ask for details...
Thanks for all.
Regards.

One thing to check is that in your /etc/sysconfig/network script
you have FORWARD_IPV4 set to true
This enables ip addresses that aren't found on your local network
to be forwarded to your isp.
Your resolv.conf file should look like this
domain <yourdomainname>
hostresorder local bind
nameserver <ispipaddress>
nameserver <ispipaddress>
Do a dig on your isp internet address and make sure the name servers are
right.
example: dig www.ispname.com
Look for NS1 and NS2 and maybe NS3 in the output it gives you.

Big Assumption -> you're using uswest.net and the 675 has 10.x.x.x
addresses on the inside interface.
You can assign any 10.x.x.x address you want. The gotcha is the 675 is
the default gateway at 10.0.0.1 and you will need to put the correct
DNS servers in the /etc/resolv.conf. RedHat's networking tools will do
this for you if you want. The 675 is acting very similar to an IP
Masquerading firewall. You can get the DNS numbers from the 675, but
I've not done this and don't remember how.
