RedHat6.0:

I can now print to a networked QMS2060 over the TCP/IP Ethernet using lpr.  
The problem is: I cannot get the login name (user name) and job name 
printed on the burst page.  If I use -U or -J with the lpr, printer simply 
ignores them.

Would please someone advise?

message I get when logging into win98.  My [public] and [tmp] shares work
fine.  No matter who I log into w98 as, smbstatus always says the
uid=nobody and gid=nobody.

/var/log/samba/nmb.log  reveals...

1)  "Samba name server BIGSERVER is now a local master browser for
workgroup WORKGROUP on subnet 192.168.1.254"

2)  "find_domain_master_name_query_fail: Unable to find the Domain Master
Browser name WORKGROUP<1b> for the workgroup WORKGROUP.  Unable to sync
browse list in this workgroup."

Do you have any ideas what is not setup properly.  -m

By denying everything you are blocking DNS lookups.  Try the following
commands with the -n option:

route -n
ipchains -n -L chain-name
tcpdump -n

You follow?

There is almost never a reason to reboot Lunux.  Here are most of the
valid reasons for rebooting Linux:

To change BIOS settings.
To change out hardware.
After a kernel re-compile.

You'd want the glibc version for either.

Hi

I wanna try this out. Already have home network of 7 pc's. 5 Win 95, 1
NT, 1 Linux box. I have no idea how to connect this. Unit has 2 db15
and one db25 (serial port? has 1488,1489 chips on board near
connector)...tcp-ip works fine on all pc's...just wanna try this
out....

FYI, we tracked it down to GameSpy.  Every time we refreshed servers in 
GameSpy, we'd get these messages.  I don't know exactly what's causing 
them, but I do know it's not someone trying to hack my network.  Since 
they're all in Cincinnati, but two different ISPs, I'd guess that there's 
a router up in that area that's flaky.

Thanks for your replies. I am almost there but not quite.  

When I check route after bootup I get the following:

where the last line represents my ASDL connection.

After I establish a dialup ppp connection I get the following:

At this point, internet packets are still routed through eth0, but if I
then say:

ifconfig ethO down

then the two eth0 lines disappear and traffic is routed through the
dialup ppp connection.
However, after I sign off the dialup ppp I can reestablish the first
eth0 line by saying

ifconfig eth0 up

However, I don't know what to say to reestablish the internet gateway
through eth0.

I have been using ed Hat Linux 6 for about 2 months now and i have used 
previous versions as well. I have a Windows 98 Peer to Peer network set-up 
at the moment which works well. But i now want to get more serious and try 
a Linux Network. I've read about and according to the sites that i have 
visited i need to set up a TCP/IP protocol and then use SAMBA for Linux. 
Does that sound correct? Whilst reading the webpages the setup looks farely 
straight forward (I HOPE IT IS!?!). Do you think you could help me out with 
setting it all up as i'm very keen in setting up a Linux network and and 
knowing a bit more about TCP/IP. Please could you keep it basic though 
because i very new to Networking, i only currently have a NetBUIE (HOW EVER 
ITS SPELT?) setup and a IPX one for multiplayer games. Thanks for all your 
help,

I did go to the book store to look for books but found 
nothing that discussed multihoming (although some books did 
use multihoming in at least one sentence in the whole book)

and I looked at that url, and although it is interesting,
it is not very useful for my needs. that url does not 
describe how to set things up. 

I still have absolutely no idea how to do multihoming on
my network, and I still have problems with slow 
traceroutes on the network.

I was basically able to get things somewhat working
by using trial and error.

The ""unable to reach host" message." sounds like your gateway address is not
set correctly on the the NT machines or your NT dns doesn't point the an
outside nameserver.
I don't how to tell if NT is running WINS instead of DNS, but Linux can't use
WINS.  Somewhere in the NT DNS/WINS setup it must allow you a way to select.
I use Linux as my nameserver and all the Win95/98/NT boxes as well as our Sun
and HP UNIX workstations get along with it just fine.

Sounds strange.  Is it possible that you are using the same IP address that someone
else is using?  Try turning off your apache server and then dial in an ping its IP
address.  If you get a reply thats the problem. If not I'm stumped too.

Ok, here is the situation, I will try to be as detailed as I can. I am
pretty new at Linux and am not sure what do with this. I have read as much
as my eyes can take on the subject and cannot seem to find any answers.

I have just installed RH5.2 and am trying to get my network card working. I
have a Magitronic I-E16-combo-5 ISA ethernet card and cannot figure out how
to get it working under linux. Is it even supported? I think (am not sure)
it is NE2000 compatible but do not know for sure. I don't know if this will
help but on the driver's disk the program used to configure the card's
eprom(?) is called EZ2000....
Anyways any help on this would be appreciated even if it is just a straight
won't work, though I really hope not.

I'm trying to install a good modem COMM program on Linux.. one that will
work well with expect / tcl. I've tried minicom - without to much luck.

It has been suggested that ecu is a good communications program.. the
problem is I haven't been able to find a compatible binary for my
system. I have however found the source to ECU 4.08 :
