I have mainly bad news for you. There are several different models of NIC
sold as "LINKSYS EtherFast 10/100". Because the manufacturer kept fiddling
with the card and slipstreaming the changes into the market, the tulip
module doesn't work consistently with all the versions out there. If you are
having that problem, you may need to get an updated version of tulip and
compile it for your kernel.

Offhand, I can't tell you which tulip versions go with which card versions,
except to mention that I have never has problems with card rev. 2.0 and
never did succeed with card rev 4.1 (though others, on other lists, have
reported success with this card version).

There is one other possibility to consider, though. You may have your BIOS
set to let the OS handle PnP. If so, for Linux, you want to change the "PnP
OS" setting to NO. Then the BIOS will set up the card before Linux boots,
and tulip now *may* be able to find and connect to the NIC.

As to I/O port and IRQ, the tulip module will autoprobe for them. Once it
has found them, the easiest way to find out what they are is to check with
"ifconfig -a".
