Another thing you might consider, is getting a "Reply-to:" header in pine
(or another mail client). That way, mail is always sent to the e-mail
address you want, and no errors are possible.

You also don't need to set your computers hostname to your isp's domain.
If you have a nameserver up and added an entry for your localhost, that
might give errors. (explaining it all would make this mail to long). So
use a fake domain and configure pine to use your isp's domain. That should
be more than enough.

To configure the computername and isp domain, and also setup the
/etc/hosts file, just hit "netconfig" on slackerware systems.
