Hi!
In my opinion I can use linux to everything I want to do, except for
programming Windoze.
It is possible to program in a variety of programming languages, you can
create web pages, program java, JavaScript, c/c++, create CGI
scripts on your local computer as well as test your webpages before
publishing. Also there is a good office suite that is free for home
use:StarOffice, in which you can create faxes, use email, make
spreadsheets, presentations, create documents ( and save in M$ formats),
database...
On top of all, there's a WINE project going, intended to enable Windoze to
run on Linux. I think it is called WINdows Emulation or something like
that. If that project succeeds, it will be the replacement for
Windoze enabling you to run whatever videly used windoze app you want.
Let's hope.
I can only agree with you on one point:it should be easier to install. On
the other hand, that cannot be an impossible to arrange.
Best,
