Starting X in 16bit color...

Hi again.. I've got X installed and it works good...however I can't get it
to start in 16bit color-depth mode...however it works just fine in Win98. I
have tryed startx -16pp and I've run the X configuration several times... I
have a 1mb Trident 9440GUI PCI video card, and a TTX (not in X's monitor
list) 17'' monitor..
Any help would be great..thnx :)
