Hello, all!

Whenever I recompile my kernel i always get an error when i try to include
my sound support. The kernel compiles fine without the sound support.
This problem has occurred since 2.0.32 to 2.0.36 for me ( i only started
with RH 5.0).

I use RedHat 5.0 and now with kernel 2.0.36
I have an Creative Soundblaster 16 PnP (ISA model)

Now, from what i understand i can use isapnp tools to fix this problem and
compile the sound in as a module. There are three questions at this stage:

        1. does this only happen when compiling in Soundblaster support or for a
lot of cards?

        2. why should my kernel compile ok if sound support is a module, when it
doesn't compile with it anyway? i.e. what difference to the compilation
does it make by setting something to Module in the kernel config.

        3. This is a very common problem (at least it seems to be) and it prompts
the question: why does this problem occur anyway? I would have thought
that with the prevalence of sound cards, and probably quite a few are ISA
SB16 PnP cards, it is a problem that would have been fixed by now. ;-)
or are the isapnp tools the fix i am asking about?

p.s. In an effort to gain more knowledge about linux Questions 2 and 3 are
probably the most important to me.
