Thanks for the response.
I have solved my problem and now have linux booting from the hard disk
via the Warp Boot Manager. Evidently the problem was that my /
partition was outside the 1023 cyl limit. I thought that / could be in
a logical partition > 1023 cyl if booting was done by a boot manager or
LILO which was below the limit. Guess I was wrong (or maybe my computer
just doesn't know it).
Fortunately I had a few hundred meg disk free space below the limit.
So, I created a partition, added it to boot manager, and then tagged it
in linux fdisk and reinstalled linux. It booted with no problem.
Now I can get down to learning how to *use* linux.
