Based on your description, such would appear to be the case.
Since Linux is only installed on one hard disk, and you are still able to boot,
this would imply that your hard disk is at least partially functional. That is
assuming that you're not booting from a floppy.
Unless you intend to recover data from the damaged disk, it wouldn't make any
difference as the disk is IMO too unreliable to fix and reuse.
