As usual in unix/Linux, there are many ways to do it. I prefer to redirect
the output of dmesg (or whatever else goes by too fast or invisibly; I find
this handy with X11 error messages, for example) to a file, then read the
file using my favorite text editor. You do this with a line like

dmesg > dmesg.output

Deirdre's suggestions are good too. It's all a matter of what you find most
convenient in a specific situation.
