telnetting to your sendmail port seems just normal behaviour (if you have   
some use of sendmail for incoming messages but i bet you don't).
telneting into  your host might be normal if you use a good   
login/password

(by normal, i meen that it is normal for hosts not behind a firewall)
anyway, try to always remove from your init scripts and from inetd.conf   
all the features you don't need (NFS server, sendmail, ...)
