This is exactly what a friend of mine does, he runs a small network, using
his linux box as a gateway, and he only attaches a monitor when he wants
to access the computer directly, otherwise you can telnet in. That way you
can get away with a really basic card and monitor, because any system
maintance only really needs a screen capable of diplaying text. He also
leaves the computer on all the time, but I think he still has a keyboard
attached. As far as I am aware a computer will still boot regardless if a
monitor is attached or not. But the intial setup of the box would require
a monitor I guess,
