glibc2

Hello Everyone - 
        
        i am currently on a libc5 system and would like to know why i would
want to update it to glibc2.....what exactly would it improve?  And how
complex is doing something like that, could i really screw anything up
bad?  Or, should i just wait until like Slackware 3.7 (if it comes with
glibc2) comes out?
