Hi AL
Is one MBR on a hard disk.
DOS FDISK can make only one partition bootable.
Linux Fdisk can make two partitions bootable. That is why you can
install LILO on the Linux partition and make it also bootable.
In the install menu the choices for LILO are !. in MBR and 2.in Linux
root partition. In the boot floppy LILO is installed when you choose to
make the boot floppy.
Experimenting with FDISK is a very dangerous thing. Once I lost all my
data.
Read the documentation of FDISK. It says that is recommanded to use DOS
FDISK to make a DOS partition. Be carefull, DOS FDISK commands are
effective, you can't preview the consequences.
It is something about the boot sectors which had to be in the first 1024
cilynders. So, if you put the DOS partition at the end of the disk you
have to let the Win95 to write your MBR and, as you have the hda1 as
Linux, you install LILO on hda1.
It is enough to make hda1 bootable (put flag "a" on hda1 with FDISK),
then, at boot time will appear LILO, if you tape dos the Win95 will
start, if you tape nothing Linux will boot by default.
