Guys,

I just installed Gnome (0.99.8) last week using the rpms. That version
seems rock
solid to me, but I'll probably upgrade to 1.0.0 once it is rpm'ed. It is my first
experience with a GUI environment (is that the correct terminology?), having
only
used stand-alone window managers nor having ever used KDE. I must say,
it is
very easy to use. Once the installation is made a little easier, and it is
incorporated
into the normal installation of some of the major distributions (Red Hat for
sure will
use it) I think it will become a real help to the "War for the Desktop."

One question I have is about the themes. When downloading and installing
Gnome, I choose to also install the latest CVS of Enlightenment that had
been
rpm'ed (0.15-something). Now I know Enlightenment uses themes, and
Gnome
uses themes, both of which are based on the GTK toolkit. Correct?
However,
there are separate places within the Gnome-config utility to change the
themes for Gnome or Enlightenment. My question is this: Which theme
changes what? I
understand Gnome provides drag-and-drop and unified help, but I am
confused as
to where the window manager stops and where the Gnome desktop begins.
Which program is responsible for what tasks?

Thanks for the clarification, and take it easy on the flames!

Michael
