If you're running Linux 5.2, start an xterm and type "linuxconf".
Find the PPP configurator and... you're done!
To start a session, you can use "netstart", as far as I remember, or just
go in Control-Panel/Network, move on "ppp0" and "Activate" it. You can
activate the dialer at boot time, there must be check-box somewhere...
That's until you'll get trained with Linux. Then, you have to "up and run"
your box. Read as much as you can in /HOWTO, the books are invaluable...
no matter you need 'em or not right now. I'd like to quote the words of
someone from RedHat: if you're not reading 'em now, you won't read 'em
when time will be against you.
I think you can ask for "alternative phone numbers", but I don't remember
exactly where at this very, very early hour in the morning. :-)
For a GUI emailer, just install Netscape Navigator/Communicator, it comes
with RedHat's distribution CDs... check out the RPMs...
Good luck.
