I recently installed the Stampeded distribution of Linux w/ kernel 2.2.1-1.
I am new to linux and have some basic file maintenance experience w/
Solaris. But I am unfamiliar with all linux commands that aren't very
similar to DOS and I don't know where configuration files are and how the
directory tree is structured. that being said, let me tell you my problem.
As my friend helped when I was installing, agetty worked well allowing
him to switch to separate login sessions. Now, after the install is
complete, I cannot switch between any login prompts using Alt-F1 through
Alt-F6. If I run 'ps aux', I can see that I have 5 other 'agetty's
running, but I can't switch to them. I know my keyboard is working, since
when I dual-boot to Win95, there is not any hardware problem. Can anyone
steer me towards a help file, man file, online doc or website that could
shed some light on this problem?
Also, I have a few other questions. I understand that there is a
plethora of info installed on my computer in the form of documentation.
But where exactly is it held? in man pages? in how-tos? in individual
READMEs? What directories can I seek out? What if I know a command in DOS
and want to find a similar one in Linux? Are there some websites that
people rely on to locate info regarding part of Linux that they don't know
the answer to?
Thanks for any help you direct my way.
