to compile the kernel, instructions are available in
/usr/src/linux/README, i believe.  you'll need to really get familiar with
linux before you learn to compile the kernel, however.

to find out your slackware version, it should be on the cdrom.  =-/ if
not, tell us the kernel version you have.  someone's bound to know what it
is.
