Yes, because all unix type os's have security built-in in the form of
file and directory permissions.  Windoze and doss are completely open,
NT has some security but not as thorough as unix.

Do you mean for Linux or doss (and this includes all versions of
windoze)?  If you mean doss then you have a few options.  The best is to
buy a copy of Norton AV which gives you downloadable updates.  Another
is to get a demo copy from a magazine cover disk and install that.  It
will time out (or whatever) but as long as you start with a clean
machine and operate a "quarantine" system you will not get viruses.  A
computer does not need a virus checker if it starts clean and never gets
any additional executables copied onto it.
