My first thought was that you might not be set up in /etc/group, but then
again, root should be able to access all devices and groups. Have you set
up /dev/lp0 or lp1 using the mknod command? If the devices do not actually
exist, then you may get a permission denied message. I would suggest using
/dev/lp0 rather than lp1, since lp1 would probably point to your second
printer port (LPT2 under DOS/Windoze). That's about all I can think of.
Try looking at the printing HOWTO, should be able to find it off of
www.linux.org under support.
