I've noticed that if you add the IP of the NT client (or Win95) to the
Linux's /etc/hosts file, the telnet connection will succeed. If you don't,
I guess the telnet daemon (or inetd) sits there forever trying to find the
reverse lookup hostname for that IP, and sometimes it works, and sometimes
it doesn't.
I don't know if this makes sense. Anyway, it helped me a couple of months ago.
