Hi Mandy, The easiest way to do this is to get Partition Magic 4.0 with
which you can re-size the linux ext2 partition and make as partition for
windoze.
Then install windows. Then you may have problems with Lilo and booting
-- for which there are a few alternatives. Presuming you're going to use
win9x and not nt, then there should be no big problems in configuring
your multi-boot options.
Otherwise, the catch-22 is that you may need a win partition already to
get a win partition. But if you can create Partition Magic's dos
utilities disk, it at least in ver. 3 which I have, is equally capable
to the gui ver. of the program. As long as you get this and resize your
partitions you shouldn't have to start all over with Linux.
But then, I think I've installed linux maybe 3 times now on the same
box. I learned the hard way so no reason you shouldn't have to. :-)
No really -- if you can save any files you've edited in your linux
installation then it may be easier to start all over and fdisk your
partitions (without partition magic) and restore your files later in
linux.
There's one other possible alternative which may not be optimal due to
the slower response of an emulation, but the bochs pkg reportedly lets
you install another OS right inside linux. win9x has been reported to
work. But if you're a linux newbie like me then you'd have another
reason to hold off on this.
OR... if you can get along with win16 apps only then there's the wine
pkg that runs in linux. And the dosemu if you have dos programs. I
haven't gotten around to these yet. I too --- even though considered an
advanced "power user" in the dos/win world am humbled by how much there
is to learn to get up and running at all. OTOH, I'm getting there --
albeit slowly.
Good luck!
