Dell Dimension XP and Red Hat 5.2 getting sound running question

I have a Dell XP Dimension using the Yamaha Sound System onboard the
motherboard. I am not able to get sounds out of it under Redhat 5.2. I used
the default windows sound system during set-up and could hear, faintly, the
test sound it played but nothing inside of Xwindows.....

Any help appreciated.
