Joe doesn't do this, but vi (elvis) does. I think this is something vi
does of its own accord, and you will have to take it up with vi.
Probably there is a way to customize its behavior. I have learned
enough vi to get out of it without resorting to the 3 finger salute, but
not to do anything useful. :-).
